    Hello all,

I am in need of help regarding the CPA education requirement for NYS. I am checking on https://www.op.nysed.gov/prof/cpa/cpalic.htm and https://www.op.nysed.gov/prof/cpa/cpa150hour.htm and I am not sure whether some of the courses I have taken previously will be accepted. (I have contacted them and they said they cannot do pre-evaluations). Below is a list of the courses I have taken and I would really appreciate it if anyone can take a look to see if these courses count towards the accounting & general business content area for the CPA requirements. You can use the NASBA education evaluation service.
If someone here can help you it might be beneficial to update this list with course code, and course hours for each of the courses you listed.
I don't really think anyone will be able to help you here though. If you don't want to use the NASBA resource (fee$) then I'd suggest continuing to do online research or perhaps applying directly to have the education evaluation done after you think you have enough credits.

So, I got in touch with NASBA today regarding my courses….So…they said this:

“The courses for the accounting requirement should come from your accounting department…”

So, for me, I assume it is any course that has the code with letters ACC or ACCT

Statistics and law, and business, aren't accounting…its math, and law, and business…

    Hi James,

In case you still need the answer, I recognized all of the courses you are taking. The class codes looked like we might have been in the same school.

I can tell you that based on your profile, you accounting major core classes should generate you 24 accounting credits. Then you will have to +6 on accounting 101 and AIS (prerequisite). Everything else in business will counts toward the 36 business credits. However, you will still be a few credit short from the 33 accounting credit.

Your college does not naturally make you qualify in the 150 credit deal, unless you did some extras.

    Good luck.

    James,

I'm 99% sure we went to the same school. That being said, you can get the rest of the accounting credits a number of ways. I took two courses at BMCC (accounting systems (basically learning quickbooks, not a duplicate of AIS), and Government and NFP accounting. You can also take courses through LSU Online Distance learning. I did the Fraud and Forensic accounting through there. Everything is online, you'll need a webcam to take the exams. Once you've meet the accounting and business requirements, you can take any other courses to meet the 150 total. I took human sexuality through LSU as well, along with a few other misc courses to meet the requirement. Or you can go for your MST. After writing this entire thing i realize this was posted in April. Hope you got the answer you needed, if not hope this helps.

Recked, Does the NASBA education evaluation service evaluate the specifics of NYS requirements. Also, where do you go for that service? Thank you!

NASBA does not evaluate specific NY state requirement, it will only qualify you to take the test. However, you could contact NYS board and verify if specific class is eligible. I think if you give them the school name and class # they will probably be able to tell you (assuming it's a NY popular school).
