So I just got back from taking REG. Man was that hard. First testlet flagged maybe 7-8 then the second testlet was brutal flagged almost half of them. The sims were just ridiculous, not a single one was a gimme. All had little wrinkles in there that I did not think they would touch especially not on a sim. Cannot believe I got the research question wrong, I could not find it during the exam but after googled it and it came right up. Had 4 DRS, 2 enhanced, 1 regular and 1 research. How can they expect us to throughly review, comprehend, and answer all of these sims in the limited time? Has anybody else had such a rough time in Q3 reg? Praying for a 75 but see that hard when I do not think I got even 50% of the sim points.

I had a similar experience. Took my exam on 07/08. I've read a lot of similar experiences here in the forum. I just hope we manage to get a 75.Fingers crossed. All the best to you!

Had a similar experience in q3… was able to do every single question in the Becker test bank, but was so tripped up over the MCQ on the exam. Nearly all of the SIMS other than the research had 6+ attachments to sift through. Best of luck!

Have to agree, took it early this quarter. REG for me was the hardest section and sims was a massacre. DRS and enhanced sims up the rear in every sim testlet. At least I know I got the research question 100% right. Just hope I did enough to pass and didn't shit the bed too much when I took it.

I also have a similar experience. REG was the hardest section for me too. MCQs were okay for me but SIMS were hard due to all the documents you have to go through which includes some information which is not necessary to answer questions.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF US! Few more days and we'll find out.

I sit tomorrow and reading this makes me pretty nervous. I feel good about the material but DRS are always a huge challenge. Best of luck to those sitting this week / weekend.

It sounds like you two have similar Q3 REG exam that I took August 31, 2017. Flagging for me is more like a measurement of how many questions that will take time to answer. They would be mostly ‘number crunching questions'. After writing FAR (Aug 25th), Q3 REG number crunching questions was fair game.

The questions were quite a challenge to me though, especially I am more familiar with Canadian Taxes (CRA), than US Taxes (IRS). Also, comparing US Tax (IRS) and Philippines Tax (BIR) tax system, they have quite a similarity.

The Q3 REG Research question was quite a challenge for me too. I couldn't find it right away. For someone who read the whole Becker textbook will likely do fine. In this exam, I didn't read the whole book, spent more on areas that didn't showed up in the exam. I used more ‘business law' rules and common sense in this exam than in my past exams. Tried to answer all sims the best I can.

I find Q3 REG a little weird, and challenging. Hoping with some answers using ‘common sense' and a few guesses, it would be good enough to get a 75! For now, still in 50…71, 72, 73 & 74 range. Definitely hopeful.

I had a similar experience. This is my last section and I feel that it is the hardest one yet. Every single SIM was enhanced for me or a DRS. Thankfully, some of them were on my stronger areas but there was one that was a TKO like I was in the ring against Mike Tyson. I think it's because REG is the most detailed of all four and has the most minutiae so it makes it more likely there are little details that can be missed here and there. I ran up against one MCQ that had one teeny tiny detail that changed the entire answer and when I reread it and realized, I could imagine whoever writing that question chuckling evilly in his or her chair.

I studied a lot of this exam and used Ninja, Roger, and Becker. The MCQs were tricky but some of the SIMS were next-level. It doesn't help that the authoritative literature is harder to use for REG than FAR and AUD. During my AUD exam, I opened up the AL during the sims and found the answers I needed in ten minutes max. I sat there for forty minutes sifting through different chapters in the REG literature to look for the answers in this one and sometimes the answers couldn't even be found.

But I knew it was going to be a hard exam when I took the mock exam on the AICPA website and realized that there were topics on there that Becker didn't even touch. Becker dropped the ball on REG and BEC imo although they did a decent job at FAR and AUD.

    AUD - 86
    BEC - 95
    FAR - 87
    REG - 77

Just took REG this morning and thought I would add my experience here instead of creating a whole new thread. In a nutshell – my exam was difficult. Like the posters above have explained, every single SIM was either a DRS or enhanced (except for maybe 1?). This alone was very frustrating on the small computer screen. I think the AICPA needs to understand that if this is going to be the case, we simply need MORE time.

Note: I prepared with Becker and actually felt pretty good leading up to the exam. That being said, the MCQ still tripped me up. The AICPA has a way with asking questions. It's like you think you know something inside and out and then they just throw one random thing in there to throw you off.

It would be a miracle if I passed with a 75. Come Monday, I am going to start preparing for my retake.
