REG- BLaw Concerns

I’ve been in BLaw for a few days not and I can’t get any traction. It feels like Wiley is more interested in the exceptions than the general rules, and several lesson assessment questions are referencing stuff not in the material/wasn’t elaborated on at all. What should I honestly need to learn/expect from this part of REG? I know it’s MCQs on the exam, but I really don’t know where to put the most of my energy.

If its in Wiley then it could be tested. I studied with Wiley and sat for REG on 4/23. My advice would be not to gloss over any of the material. I'm sure you could still pass by skipping some sections, but its a dangerous game.

    Thanks @Defo.
I feel like there is a decent amount of common sense in the Law (i.e: performance overrides the Statute of Frauds.) But some of this stuff is just plain nuts/ so much to remember with more exceptions than justification to have a general rule

If you thought business law has alot of rules and exceptions, you are going to hate the tax portion!

I struggled with BLAW in wiley as well. I'd say fight through it. I regret not spending more time on it.

I feel like I'm playing roulette trying to discern what's most likely to be on the exam/ major focus points.

@jsdailey-I would jsut make sure to know everything enough to pass. Know enough blaw to pass in MCQ, it's very unlikely to show up in SIMS, and taxation is still the meat of this exam.

Blaw is a pain….I haven't reviewed it yet as much as I have tax, and I do see some logic sprinkled here and there, but there is such a huge breadth of information to intake, and each segment has its own exceptions etc. it feels impossible to remember all of it. I suppose that's the point, I'm probably going to hammer away at it and commit what I can to short-term memory as I get closer to exam day.

I had to take several days off from studying with my second child being born, and thought I'd be rusty on the tax portion but wasn't at all, but the blaw minutia is killing me.

I'm finding out that it's so much info in the law that the review phase may be more crucial than for any other section. To keep all that BLaw in your head at exam time. Glad I scheduled for a Tuesday so the weekend before cram will be uber fresh.

The Blaw section is only worth a portion of the exam. You're better served making sure you nail down entity taxation, property taxation and individual tax. Also, tax preparer ethics are important too. I agree to not skip it, but dont get hung up on it, especially during your final review. You can afford a so-so perfomance in Blaw. But not in tax.

Unfortunately, I have to re-take REG because it expired, but I had the same issue when studying for it the first time around. I was getting stuck on quite a few of the Business Law sections and felt defeated. I decided to move on to the tax sections and felt like I grasped that material much faster. Once I was done with tax, I went back to law and didn't seem to have as much trouble as when I first tried to get through it. Just an idea. It worked for me!

I did it!! Finally a licensed CPA!!
