Just signed up fro Ninja study and plan on taking REG in Q1 2019. I was unaware of the changes to the exam. May be a bad choice.

Hey Ninja's. I'm jumping in again after dealing with 2 sick parents and two deaths in the family. Our parents are doing much better thank God. I am determined to realize my dream, and that's to become a CPA. I want to schedule for the end of January even though the big deal is about the test changes. So I'm in .

    It begins with a 75

    Hi All,

I'm stepping back in to the Reg after getting a 66 on the first go-round and am working on trying to figure out what changes have come down for 2019. I'm shooting for end or February for round two.

    Hi!
I actually re scheduled REG for Jan 14 and it was originally scheduled for today. I'm hoping the overall changes happening on the test next year aren't material in the scheme of things. Not sure what to expect on 2019 changes to the test/study methods. Does anyone have good resources on major changes coming to the test (other than the known itemized deduction and corporate tax rate changes?) I was thinking all of the Business Law and ethics should stay the same. Hoping for a pass! Good luck to all.

    Hi all,

Planning to take REG 1/3/19 after a “non-try” attempt in September. What’s the best advice to hammer and study? I am taking two weeks off beginning 12/21 through 1/3…. and not spending Christmas with my family this year to
Make sure I pass. My concern is a lot of people pass REG on the not first go around and because of my score at stake, I need to go above and beyond to pass…

    Thoughts and advice?

    BEC - 82
    AUD - 82 (EXPIRED 1/31/19); 74

    REG - 64, Retake 6/1/19

    FAR - 68, 60, 80

    Not giving up...

What material is everyone using for REG? I am currently using Gleim, but I have read that there is a lot of unnecessary information within the course. Any recommendations?

    FAR: Passed

    AUD: Passed

    BEC: Passed

    REG: TBD

Hi Everyone, I'll be taking REG in February. Using Wiley CPA Excel, supplemented with Ninja Audio, and Notes. Going to keep an eye on this topic about what we can expect from the new changes in Q1.

    FAR: 76*, 75
    REG: 78*, 85
    BEC: 80*
    AUD: 76*

All scores expired, let's try this again.

Hi everyone! I have scheduled my REG exam in March, 2019. I have never done taxes and was my weaker area back in college. Do you think 2.5 months will be enough to pass the exam?

    AUD - 84
    BEC - 89
    FAR - 89
    REG - 85

I took REG 12/10 so I wont find out until 12/19. It will take a miracle to pass as I didn't have time to spend on this retake..

I'll be going over the modules again but mainly doing MCQs. TCJA changes are to Individuals and Corps (that i am aware of). I'll be going over this stuff again in Becker. I'll try to keep posting as I identify the stuff that changed. Good luck everyone!

@mimeto I think 2.5 months is plenty of time. You have passed the other parts already, and your scores don't look bad. Apply the same strategy and give yourself enough to practice MCQs and SIMs at the end. I have taken REG twice, and passed it on my second try…and then let it expire lol. The first time I took I was way too much in the weeds and trying to understand rarely tested complex topics. The second time I put more effort into the basic concepts because they are more frequently tested and it definitely helped me.

    FAR: 76*, 75
    REG: 78*, 85
    BEC: 80*

    Hey guys –

Just received my REG score and unfortunately, I failed a second time (72, 73). I’m planning on retaking it January 10 or 11. Does 4 weeks seem feasible with the upcoming REG changes? Thought I might take a chance since I’m so close to passing!

Hi all, I just finished my Masters in Accountancy and am planning to sit Reg in February. I'll be working at an internship so hopefully I'll have enough time to get through all the material in Becker. I'm hoping to get the whole thing over with by September.

I just scheduled REG for 2/2/19. I'm a young father/husband + undergrad/full time employee. I am currently using Becker + Ninja + SurgentCPA. I would like to hear any strategies for using Becker. I feel like I'm taking WAY too long to get through the modules.

Also, I am scheduled to take all 4 exams in 6 months.

Soo I'm trying to understand the logic behind the section 1245 recapture. My logic is, because you got to take deductions for depreciating the assets, when you sell it for a gain, the part that is attributable to depreciation is taxed as ordinary income so you don't get to “double dip” on the benefits of both deducting and preferential tax rates. Is this correct/any better explanations?

    Thanks 🙂

@zachnpcohen is REG your first section? Taking all four exams in 6 months is an ambitious goal but still very possible if you remain committed to your studying.

Why is it taking so long for you to get through the modules? Are you watching the videos and reading? I would ignore the videos and read the book yourself and watch the videos at times you are really struggling to understand something. Then practice MCQ and review your notes. I use Quizlet to take and review notes, it's very good. I personally don't like rushing when I study for these exams but it seems you already have a NTS for all four parts so you gotta push hard.

I am taking REG next quarter. I failed and then passed BEC for my 1st exam and just recently learned I failed FAR on my first attempt. I’m disheartened because I felt I really did well on it, compared to how I felt on BEC. I’m planning on attacking it again after REG.

I’m using Wiley Platinim and Ninja to prepare but I’m concerned about all of the changes for testing that I am not fully convinced Wiley has updated all it needed to-I don’t want to study topics and then find out they are no longer correct when I take the exam.

I just got my scores and I passed REG after only studying for 4 days. It was my retake granted but that was 2 years ago. I work in corporate tax so that helped in some ways I think but we don't do any individual, p/s, s-crops or business law. So I'm not sure how this happened haha… I was NOT expecting a pass on REG.

Guys, do well on those SIMs. Take your time with them and try to put down your best answer. Use AL.

    Hello everyone!
I have never been too active on the NINJA forum but here I am lol. I've been at this for a good while and had my good share of fails and one expired score, but I somehow managed to pass three exams in the past 4 months so I hope keep the momentum going! I plan on taking this in March using NINJA MCQ's, Notes, Audio, and Wiley CPA Excel for simulations.

Is there a difference taking reg in q1 or q2 ? Heard someone said q1 reg is still the old material, I.e. before tax reform. Each quarter of 2019 has 4 score release windows, does that mean you can take up to 4 times a quarter?

    #2123133

@jingwen, Q4 2018 was the last one for old material. Q1 and Q2 will be pretty much the same on REG. Can only take each section once per quarter. You can take multiple exams per quarter, but can't repeat sections.
