From m1 is for partnership so book expenses are different from taxable income. The 50% rule would apply when computing book income vs taxable incomeMay 5, 2019 at 11:51 pm #2379783May 6, 2019 at 12:30 pm #2381094
Well, today is a new day. This is a heavy week and I am going to go at it all day. I'm calling it ultra cram. I will be ready and I will pass.
I did good yesterday. I stopped rushing, I really don't know why I was, but I carefully read the questions and began to do much better. I also went over a few more of those I missed and really put some thought into the correct answers and what I did wrong other than not completely reading the question. I feel better about attacking the mcq's. Now I am finding a place to study. Too many people stop by my office to talk, so I am going to go to the park or study on my deck since it's soooo nice today.
I hope all is going well for you 23. I am going over one of my old Becker capital losses lectures from 2018. I am missing something. I hope it won't make me more confused with all the changes.
Good luck to you 74phoenix you got this.
My motto this month is PUSH YOURSELF, DON'T SETTLE. So I'm pushing until the 15th. Then on to far. Study hard and keep going gang. Anybody else in our group that need encouragement, jump right in Please.May 6, 2019 at 12:44 pm #2381121
@23 @tncincy You guys can do it! Keep your motivation (mine is a trip to Cali) fresh on your mind and remind yourself why you want to pass when you are feeling lazy. I switched between Becker and Ninja for MCQ and Sims and found that highlighted areas I did not know well.
I took the test this morning and think I did well. *crossing my fingers*
I encourage you guys to study estate taxable income, Schedule A itemized deductions, Schedule K, tax preparation, penalties for understatement/negligence, like kind exchanges, and partnerships.
I heavily used the Authoritative Literature while doing my SIMS – hoping that gets me points. Yesterday I did 7 hours of studying – focusing on Becker SIMS. Was so tired I just watched the Video lectures on the SIMs, but it helped today!May 6, 2019 at 3:01 pm #2381610
@74phoenix Thanks for the heads up. I feel like I am all over the place, but I guess things will settle down when I actually take the test. God bless you and may the test Gods be with you as well. I am tightening it up this afternoon and through the night, I have made my list. Seriously, I really hope this is it for you. Keep those fingers crossed for the rest of us. Come on 23 we have to keep going. When is your test 23?May 6, 2019 at 5:32 pm #2382141
@tncincy, I test on the 22nd. I wanted to sit earlier, but it will be good to have extra time. Plus, my 18 months have not started so I will take advantage of the time. I need to focus on weak areas and sims.
@74phoenix, congrats on finishing! Sounds like you were very well prepared. It's going to be a long wait until the 23rd. I'm sure you have all sorts of emotions going on right now.May 7, 2019 at 8:46 am #2384157
Well I'm at it again today. I'm all in, no work. I have nothing to do but study, so mcq's, notes, audio flash cards, here I come.May 7, 2019 at 10:22 am #2384529
Anyone taking REG June 10th or around that time? If so where are you at with your progress? I will be done with REG 3 and 4 this week. Any help understanding gains and losses (1231, 1245, 1250) will be much appreciated.May 7, 2019 at 10:39 am #2384628
Please pay attention to gains and losses. I have been struggling with it and property transactions. My test is in another week but those are some key areas in my opinion. Good luck to you.May 8, 2019 at 5:05 am #2387046
Up and at it early. This is indeed power week. Although at this point doing non stop mcq's is ideal, I get distracted with writing notes. I think I have way too many notes. (wrong answer notes) What should I do. What is my focus? (panicking a little 🙁 )May 8, 2019 at 7:53 am #2387421
Passed with an 82 in my second try. Thanks Ninja. I used Becker and Ninja both. Becker questions are easier compared to Ninja. I read through the books first, finished homeworks for the chapters first and once done with the chapter I did 100 questions for the chapter. In Becker i was scoring ~80 – 85%. I would follow the same methodology in Ninja i.e. 100 questions per sitting and I would score significantly less. Ninja is a very good guys I sort of regret getting Becker at all. Ex: Becker has very little info on estate and trust taxation and the mcqs are weak but Ninja's questions on that section covers it in much detail.May 8, 2019 at 9:28 am #2387709
@tncincy, keep going strong! I think a week out you want to focus on your weak areas. Non stop MCQ and notes are great if that helps you retain the information. Don't neglect the sims either. It's helpful in my opinion to see the material presented in a different format. Check out the sample test in a few days as well.May 8, 2019 at 10:14 am #2387835May 8, 2019 at 11:27 am #2387937
Anyone struggling staying awake for Becker REG lectures? It's so dry. After listening to Gearty I find myself having to go to Farhat accounting lectures to understand better. (check him out on youtube if you dont know him, HE IS GREAT). Any other “free” and good additions that you guys are using?May 8, 2019 at 12:12 pm #2388000
@sidieuleveut I hear you. Gearty might work for some but my honest opinion on him is he just makes you highlight everything which I feel is useless because I do that regardless when I read the book on my own time. In regards to free material, there is a guy on Youtube I forgot his name he has good content on REG at least. However, he has a little bit of an accent so might be difficult to understand sometimes and there wasnt any subtitle option either. But he was great for me because he had some great lectures on topics that Becker barely touched on. Ill post once I find his name.May 8, 2019 at 12:15 pm #2388009
Oh I forgot about Authoritative Literature and research 🙁 . I feel like everything is closing in. So how should I review or practice those?May 8, 2019 at 12:29 pm #2388039
How does everyone recommend studying for the sims? Is watching the videos in Becker good review?May 8, 2019 at 1:08 pm #2388183May 8, 2019 at 2:09 pm #2388285
I recommend practicing 2-3 SIMS a day (for easier chapters, do more) and watching Becker videos whenever you do not understand.
For authoritative lit, just practice 2-3 research sims (they should be quick!) but familiarize yourself with how to search / advance search on Auth. Lit. With a hard SIM with calculation, practice looking up a topic in the Auth Lit. Don't focus too much on it though – better to practice basis SIMS 😉May 9, 2019 at 7:16 am #2390094
Hi guys, my suggestion for Reg sims is dont bother spending too much time and getting hung up for being totally lost on them. If you have Becker, do those 3 practice exams like its a real exam and those 20 – 21 sims altogether should be plenty. Also, if you have time look at the newly released AICPA questions (includes both mcqs and sims). What I do recommend and what I did while prepping was making sure I knew the layout of the authoritative literature and the topics. The layout is sort of similar to how the becker chapters are set up. One of the sort of guaranteed questions on the reg exam is they will provide a letter to or from the client and you would have to change the wording and tax advice that you provide on that letter. besides getting the research questions right, if you know the layout of the auth literature inside and out you can pinpoint exactly where to look for your answer. You might not get all the answers but there are couple of easy points that you can get in those questions even though you dont know the calculation involved or even the concepts. That saved me in my exam, knowing the layout of the literature. Its futile to search for keywords or even use advanced search in the literature. Just my two cents.May 9, 2019 at 7:40 am #2390136
I'm up and at it early. Very nervous but I know I can do this. @Anish.Iamsal2017 I have a becker 2018 will that layout work for authoritative literature layout?
Keep those fingers crossed for me, I started this morning writing notes. I am going to go topic by topic mcq's and then go random. I think this is a plan, but I will adjust accordingly. My score moved a little, but I need to hit a high trending to give me a little cushion of confidence. I am grateful for any tips or advice.May 9, 2019 at 8:28 am #2390226
Taking REG tomorrow. After a good first exam, I am nervous if it was just a fluke. Any advice would be awesome.May 9, 2019 at 9:28 am #2390382
@parker Are there any areas you think you need to brush up on? If so, I'd review those. Perhaps, instead of a fluke, you under performed on BEC? I bet you're more prepared than you believe. After a good review, I'd get a good night's sleep and kill it tomorrow.
@Anish.Lamsal2017 and @74phoenix, Thanks for the suggestions on the sims. They have always been a weakness on my score reports. I'm going to continue to work a few each day and go over the areas I struggle with. Using the AL is a great suggestion as well.May 9, 2019 at 9:35 am #2390394
I know this was created in 2017, but this may be helpful in determining what areas to focus on when practicing Simulations. You can always double back this list with the Blueprints provided by the AICPA and see how the topics and tasks line up.May 9, 2019 at 9:50 am #2390400
You guys can do it! Remember to do breathing exercises 🙂 I also recently heard of a website called Focusmate.com where you sign up and and are paired with a person, and have to check in with them daily on your goals.May 10, 2019 at 7:09 am #2392533
Hope study is going well for everyone. I'm up and at it early. My son graduates tomorrow receiving his masters degree. There is some travel involved so I am studying early, and planning my evening study as well. I plan to continue the mcq marathon, previous aicpa questions, and go over a few sims and ninja notes. I'm trying to take advantage of any study time I have. Keep those fingers crossed gang I want to do well.May 11, 2019 at 4:29 pm #2395866May 12, 2019 at 3:55 pm #2397603
Happy Mother's day to the mothers among us 🙂 . I went to the graduation yesterday, it was beautiful and long, so I thought I've been through enough graduations so I decided I am going to read my notes while we wait for them to read off all the graduates only to find out that there is a clear bag policy and we could not bring in bags or purses until we got to the door. There were a lot of angry women. Then it started to rain :-(. So I couldn't bring in my books and I tried listening on my phone, the phone died, my charger in my purse in the car. So I just sat for several hours of cheering (screaming) for the next person. So study was all but lost. Trying to make up today with a slow start, but I plan to get it done.May 14, 2019 at 12:49 pm #2401740
Trying to make today a productive day. I have checked into my hotel yesterday and will be here until Thursday. I thought I would need a nap after the exam tomorrow afternoon. I went into a mini panic mode because I was trying to sign into the forum yesterday and there was not a login page. I thought I had a virus or something on my computer. I am excited, and anxious so I am studying to make it count. Keep those fingers crossed the clock is ticking….tomorrow afternoon is show time.May 14, 2019 at 1:50 pm #2401857
Good luck!! Go and crush REG!
