@tncincy thank you for the welcome. waiting to be able to view my score form to see my weak areas so I know what I definitely need to review. Love your enthusiasm, need some of it for this study marathon for the next week or so. Really want to get REG out the way so I can hopefully do AUD within this testing window as well.
BTW, can anyone explain the changes coming to REG for Q3?June 19, 2019 at 10:38 am #2490015
I'll be joining this topic in Forum – as I just failed this score release by 6 points less than 1st attempt back in Dec 2018. I'm laughing to myself right now – like WTH.. But I plan on retaking this test in a month and hope to get to know you guys along the way and we all pass this next time around 🙂June 19, 2019 at 4:50 pm #2491755
Hi everyone, I passed REG. Wanted to thank you all for your support. This has been a great group and great source of motivation especially from @tncincy , @23 , @74phoenix , @ali and the others. Getting post notifications from yall really got me going. Good luck to everyone and lets keep pushing. AUD is next for me. Hopefully there are nice people in that group too 🙂June 20, 2019 at 10:52 am #2494530
@sidieuleveut, Great Score and congrats. 🙂
Hope study is going well for everyone. Today I am going all mcq's. I keep hesitating because I am not sure, but I know if I keep doing them something good has to happen.
Keep studying. I want to pass guys so I got to go desperate.June 20, 2019 at 4:08 pm #2495544
So Wiley is my main study material. Just started Property Transactions and want to know where to find 1031 Exchanges and Involuntary Conversions in the Ninja videos if anyone knows. I just want some clarification. I am getting a few right and a few wrong so there is something I am missing. Thanks in advance!June 20, 2019 at 7:53 pm #2496171
Goal is to retake Reg the first week of July as I think much of it is still fresh in my head. I've done about 75 cumulative questions after reseting my stats and Im trending at an 82 and averaging 76.(small sample size) Should I get another test bank or use the same one? I am currently using Surgent and after doing those 75 questions Im already back at the review phase. Thoughts? Anyone else giving themselves little time before a retake?June 22, 2019 at 9:13 am #2499012
Sounds like a good goal!!
What’s everyone’s goals today?!June 22, 2019 at 12:10 pm #2499417
My goal today is to do as many mcq's as possible( 100 minimal). My weakness is still property transactions and capital gains and losses. I know 1231 but I keep getting caught on gains and losses. I am going over them again. I went to Farhat videos online, much better explanation. Hopefully, I can do better with property transactions and gains and losses. I need to do better on contracts as well. Study hard guys. I am doing mcq's only unless I am doing miserable. I may even conclude with Ninja notes.June 22, 2019 at 2:17 pm #2500008
My goal will also be 100 MCQs. I reviewed some notes today and did some MCQ – but it's going to take a lot of focus for me to pull off 100 MCQ on a nice day like today.June 22, 2019 at 2:35 pm #2500023
Come on 74phoenix focus. July is around the corner. Here we are it's Saturday again.June 22, 2019 at 6:54 pm #2500776
Tncincy you're right. I am at 130 MCQ. Trying to hit 200.June 24, 2019 at 5:27 am #2503458
Hi everyone – I just registered to post here. In February, I passed FAR with a 76 and just passed Audit early June with an 83 (using Becker). I'm starting REG now, and giving myself about 5 and a half weeks (I am studying full time before I begin work). I have experience in tax from prior internships, but still worried about this exam. I struggled with FAR and barely passed, so I'm worried these calculation and memory based subjects will be a challenge for me again.
Any tips on study strategies for REG as opposed to FAR and Audit? I tend to over-study the book (I took too long reading and taking notes at times). Mainly reading the textbook and taking notes is about half of my studying. Then maybe 30% is MCQs, 10% Mock exams, and last 10% progress tests and sims. I don't do many sims (just those on the mock, and maybe 1 for each chapter).
For REG, should I change my strategy at all? I've heard you should focus more on sims for REG, some say to focus more on the book, others say to just skim the book… Any suggestions would be great! Mainly worried about how to allocate my time, and what I should expect this time around.June 24, 2019 at 7:57 am #2503731
@futurecpa welcome! REG is another beast. Similar to FAR as in many concepts to grasp, formulas and calculations. However, business law and professional guidance don't have many calculations and those are more concept intensive. I would recommend bumping up your MCQ to about 50%. Go through the lessons and take notes. Review those notes and any notes you take while doing MCQ. I would practice SIMS but honestly those are hard to prepare for. Take the practice / mock exams. You should aim to have scores in the 80s.June 24, 2019 at 6:47 pm #2505762
Done – 100 MCQ today. Goal is to do 50 MCQ tomorrow before work. 50 MCQ – 100 MCQ tomorrow after work.June 25, 2019 at 8:04 pm #2508246
100 MCQ today. This week I am focusing on individual taxation and professional rules. I may sneak in some Agency Law too. Tomorrow morning I aim to do at least 50 MCQ!June 28, 2019 at 8:31 am #2513679
Go 74Phonix! You are showing the stamina needed to pass this thing. get r done!
However, I am stuck. I don't have my nts and not too sure if there will be seats for mid-July. With that, I have an nts for Far. Should I get started on Far now and keep reviewing for Reg until seats open? I don't have a review course to bounce between, I would have to switch ninja from reg to far. I'm thinking Ninja won't let you do mcq's for reg and mcq's for far at the same time. or in the same month. HELP!June 28, 2019 at 9:29 am #2513889
I'm feeling down. Maybe doing non stop mcq's is not getting it for me. Maybe I need something more. I am using ninja only. Maybe I need some lectures or something. I can read the book but for some reason I am not getting what I need from the chapter to answer questions effectively. I don't know, but I got to get a handle on this somehow.June 28, 2019 at 9:58 am #2513937
@tncincy – When does your NTS for FAR expire?
What do you feel that your lacking? Learning from the MCQs? I always found that when reading, I will read out loud to myself. I find it helps me remember what I read since you're forcing yourself to read and speak the words.June 28, 2019 at 10:16 am #2513952
@tncincy I don't think you should switch to FAR now. You are in it with REG!! You can definitely do it. Try changing the way you write notes – put it in a different format on your looseleaf or in an Excel instead. Try using more colors. Encourage yourself every step of the way! Maybe if focusing on the amount of MC you do a day or the number correct, focus on the amount of time you allotted to it and really focused on the material and that might make you feel better because you were productive. Productivity doesn't necessarily = questions correct, remember that!June 28, 2019 at 10:18 am #2513955
My Nts expires 9/9/19. I feel I am lacking order. I still feel like I am all over the place trying to conquer a moving target. I guess when I get the questions wrong consistently. I spend more time trying to find it in the book and cannot find it or resort to internet searches. I guess I'm in panic mode again.June 28, 2019 at 10:35 am #2513979
I would probably consider switching to FAR then. It gives you a little more than 2 months to get through the material and learn it. I think I can understand your feeling of being all over the place. I use Ninja primarily for the notes, audio and MCQs. I find it “difficult” to get things in order since, in my opinion, the notes/audio don't line up with MCQs in terms of topics covered. Where as in Wiley, the review course I use, is broken up by topic to match the planned out lesson. Have you tried following the Ninja framework?
I agree with 74phoenix, quality over quantity. I can easily do 150-250 MCQs in a day. If I don't learn anything from those, then that's time not being put to good use.June 28, 2019 at 1:00 pm #2514189

@CH89, Thanks for your suggestion. I have decided to move on to far (since I already have a nts) I have materials to get it done. I have decided to take my time, nail down the concepts and quit looking at the score release. I can get it done. In the mean time I will also keep reviewing reg. I don't have to switch back and forth. Just use what I have. I really appreciate you guys. I will continue to post. Keep studying hard. Keep those fingers crossed for me. I am slow with work right now and I can also make better use of my time, easily losing focus solving other things. Thanks again for letting me vent.June 28, 2019 at 1:10 pm #2514246
@CH89, What part are you studying now?
@ Karla, Thanks for the reminder. I forgot all about the flash cards. I guess I'm too focused on Mcq's.
If I can get a seat I will go for reg. But I am not going to waste time.June 28, 2019 at 3:51 pm #2514522
@tncincy – You got this! It is all part of the process, don't let this exam bog you down. A new thing I've been doing is MCQs for a chapter, after going through the material, and not moving on until I am scoring 90s out of 30 MCQs, cumulative for that chapter. May I suggest also doing some SIMs and writing down notes for those too? They are pretty much MCQs just more detailed, and I feel they really help bring it all together! We are all here to support and root you on!
I'm still studying for AUD, exam is coming up July 11. Fun stuff haha.June 28, 2019 at 6:35 pm #2514750
@CH89, Great suggestion. Yes it began to bog me down. I can do the 90's out of 3 mcq's not move until I was getting 90's or at least 80's. I was doing topic by topic starting out then I switched to random mcq's. My score was not moving I am still at 50-60%. I am going to start nailing down Far and keep doing reg. Good idea?
I was trying to schedule Reg for July 12, but I do not have a nts yet.June 28, 2019 at 7:02 pm #2514765
@tncincy – I like going topic by topic, at least that way, my notes have some sort of flow to them. It always bothered me when my notes were all over the place. Once I get through all the questions for a topic, or a chapter, I will do random MCQs for that chapter. When you start scoring well on that, move on to the next chapter. I will go back and review prior chapters as well. Doing random MCQs is nice, because that is how it is come exam day.
You can try and keep your self familiar with REG as you work through FAR, but it also may not be a bad idea to just simply take a break from REG. I know after failing twice on REG, I was absolutely tired of seeing the material. I don't know how quick the turnaround for an NTS is for you and if seats would be available on that day to retake REG. If you're feeling confident in yourself to sit for REG again this quarter, then by all means go for it. You're in a bit of tricky situation, because you definitely do not want that NTS for FAR to go to waste, and I also feel you should stick to one section until you pass it. I think it will be your judgment call as to how you want to handle REG and FAR. Sorry for the rambling and any confusion I may have caused haha.June 28, 2019 at 8:31 pm #2514849
Thank you so much for your response. I am taking it all in consideration. I certainly don't want to rush nor waste a nts. I am really working on a more doable study situation. Again, thank you so much. Keep checking in. Your comments are very valuable and appreciated.June 29, 2019 at 10:17 am #2515389
So after much consideration, I am going to focus on far. I have time to nail down the concepts an read the book. I will feel so much better when I get a pass. So I am not anxious today, out on my deck (beautiful day) getting in a chapter or two with intense notes. It's my husbands birthday so I have to get it in before the festivities. Good luck 74Phoenix and other ninja's taking reg soon. You guys got this, and I'll check in for motivation if necessary. Thank you all so much. I really appreciate the encouragement and the suggestions.June 30, 2019 at 2:43 pm #2518440
Failed reg again was my last paper and lost far as well. It is ridiculous the idea of losing credit, I feel it is very commercial.
I Really don’t know how to start again , can see that you guys here being really positive and encouraging each others
