@ryan33 wow, is that one of my posts? No seriously….I felt the EXACT same way about my Q3 Reg exam vs Q4 Reg retake…..Oh yea, I got a 74 on my first attempt too with “weaker” on the sims being the nail in my coffin. Eerie how similar our opinions are of the two exams and the fact that we both scored 74 the first time. I'm praying for a pass on Friday but I just don't see it given how random the MC was..

I always wonder if you do well on SIMS are you pretty much set if you also do okay on MCQ. But every question on this site is about doing awful on the sims. On my retake about a month ago I thought I nailed sims. Even looked some of them up

@needsa75 I am relieved that I am not the only one who felt this way. I wish someone would tell me that it's possible to pass with only doing well on sims. Maybe some of the really bad MCQs were pre-test, but I literally thought most of them were so tricky and hard. Even the ones that are normally easy with only a sentence in the question were obscure topics.

I either pass the entire exam or go back to 50% losing FAR, which took me 4 times to pass the first time. I got a 74 on that one too.

That's so shitty that you might lose FAR…That's what I am terrified about as well.

Anyways, I totally agree. The MC was tricky from start to finish. A lot of the short worded questions were completely out of left field. If I could have combined the MC from my Q3 exam with the sims from my Q4 exam I would pass with flying colors.

I still can't believe how different the exams were…

Same here – I honestly feel like I would have gotten a 90 if I had last quarter's multiple choice and this quarter's sims. I wonder if we could have had the same freaking test as it sounds like our experience was so similar.

Also, I can't tell what the difficulty of the testlets mean for REG. Like can a short question from an obscure topic be considered difficult if the topic is difficult? I think we both understand that our tests were “difficult” in the sense that the questions weren't a main topic we studied, but does that translate into it being a difficult question?

Last exam's questions had some long, wordy questions, but the topics themselves were often something Becker emphasized so I wouldn't consider them super difficult.

I just took Reg. The multiple choice questions were very reasonable and didn't include any questions that I hadn't covered while studying. There were a few questions that I wasn't sure about, but there was only one question where I flat out guessed because I had no clue. I can't tell if the testlets got harder or not. They all seemed the same to me. I took a bathroom break after testlet 3, and at that point, I was feeling pretty good about things. Then I got to the SIMS, and things started to go bad. I couldn't find the research question, and wasted about 20 minutes looking for the answer. I finally decided to skip it for the time being and move on.

The next three SIMS were a little tricky but I think I was able to work through them. By that time i was getting short on time, so I knew I would have to move quickly through the other 2 SIMS. That is when I had a freak out moment because the last 2 SIMS were DRS. One made no freaking sense, and I didn't have time to sort through all of the documents. I just entered a lot of zeros and guessed on the rest of the cells. The next DRS wasn't as detailed, so I was at least able to work through it a little. I just didn't have time to put a lot of thought into it. Lastly, I went back to the research question with about 2 minutes left and put in an answer that was at least related to the topic.

Overall, I know I didn't pass because of the SIMS, but I still came out of there feeling like I knew the material pretty well. My problem was terrible time management.

ROTFL….there really seem to be two totally different types of exams in Q4….ones with tricky/hard MC and reasonable sims….and another with reasonable MC and hard/tricky sims..

I thought my exam was weird in a sense that almost 50% of the MCQ are business law questions. Testlets were medium-medium-medium. I think the third testlet had longer questions but not necessary harder…. just hoping for a 75…

50% B-Law? I would have failed that for sure..

I definitely got a good chunk of b-law and a lot of it was out of left field…not the major concepts you would expect to see.

However, it wasn't anywhere near 50% of my exam..

Hi! I haven't taken REG before, but I am 9 days away from taking it! Any major advice? Slash, I know in Becker they say don't focus on thresholds/phaseouts, but are there any numbers/specific topics that involve numbers that you would recommend knowing/was that important? I know that while studying I noticed that one of the SIMS for Ch. 1 had you have to know that for calculating SE net earnings, you had to know that you multiply net profits*92.35%… which made me nervous.

You guys are so right. Just took Reg today. MCQ are harder than Q3, I flagged 6-7 question for each testlet, I don't feel difficulty level changes very much… They are just equally medium or maybe hard. the portion for Blaw def increased than Q3. Sims are tricky… I probably got 2-3 100% correct, and I was running out of time so i had to drop numbers at last minute. I am not very positive. Pray for 75 on 11/22…

@aspiringcpa I would not focus a lot on complex calculations. The exam is not calculation intensive at all. Like others have said, the exam is much more conceptual than you would expect. Be sure to manage your time wisely and leave around an hour and a half for the SIMS, if possible.

Someone at work got the same exact practice scores as me on the becker final exams and he got a 92. I hope the same applies to me :)…or even 17 points less will do.

I felt as if the MCQ's were very straight forward and not that difficult. Of course there were 3-5 per testlet I wasn't sure about, but I think that's normal. It's the sims that destroyed me. For instance I thought I understood how to calculate partnership/s-corp/c-corp basis and disposals fairly well, but when you get a sim that involves every single type of situation and all the answers are calculations with no drop downs any little thing can be wrong and throw your whole answer off. Even the research question was such an obscure topic, I'm not even sure how I ended up finding it after 20 mins. I had to fight/struggle for every single little point or correct answer. By the end I was so exhausted and frustrated I barely reviewed my work with 20 mins left on the clock and walked out defeated. Such a humbling experience.
