Well, that exam was….weird. Definitely the most different material from any of my study materials that I’ve had on an exam, and this was my 4th. I used Becker, NINJA notes, and NINJA mcqs. There were a lot of questions on blaw and ethics that were on topics I’ve never heard of.

ALSO, was wondering if anyone else had a SIM like this. I won’t go into topic details, but the format was so different than anything I’ve seen. I had my normal typical research question, but then I also has another one that said to use the authoritative literature to look up the topics listed and answer the given questions. It was easy and so straight forward. Too easy. Was literally just like a google search and plugging in the answers. It gave me word for word what to look up. Has anyone had that kind of sim? I really hope it counted.

I also possible had a test DRS SIM, but I’m not sure. There was my question tab, and email correspondence, and the financial data in another tab. I’m not sure if this counts as DRS or if I just haven’t seen a sim like it.

vannessa_ls, what are you averaging on Becker tax chapters? I would try to master Becker, then ninja, and after I'm done with those two, I would consider another course like Yaeger cram. Ninja in pretty good because although some questions are similar to becker, there are other questions that test you on the information you have not seen in Becker, but within the same topics.

@Martin, I actually just have the Becker book so I read the book and did the hw problems on the back, but I wasn't really keeping score. I think I averaged about 70 on those hw problems.

I am working on going through the NINJA problems at least once now, but my average is 54, so maybe I need to go back through the book

vannessa_ls, there is a huge thread showing how students were in the high 60s in ninja test bank and then passing the Regulation exam, but like i mentioned before, do not try to get more review courses without first mastering what you already have.

Thanks Martin! Just have to keep trying then, but my score is going down instead of going up!

I want to answer each question at least once then will go back to the ones I missed. Aaahhhh

Well, thanks to everyone who replied. Just wanted to keep you all updated and give hope to future lurkers that may come across this, I PASSED WITH A 91!

So I guess while I personally felt unprepared, the AICPA though otherwise.

I will never understand these tests, but I guess now I don't have to because I am officially DONE DONE DONE!

Nice job cb, you breezed through the CPA exam. I take REG on Sunday and keep reading all the horror stories on here. A 91 is a hell of a score, especially for a test like REG. Great job and hope I can be joining you soon in the “done” crowd.

@CPA2BEE I wouldn't say it was a breeze at all haha. There are SO many horror stories on here, but you've passed 3 so know what it takes to study for a pass. Clearly I felt like doo-doo walking out, so if you have the same reaction as me, don't give up hope. REG was such a weird test, but I guess all the things that I had no idea on no one else knew either, so those questions were either thrown out or just didn't count against me. Try keeping that in mind when you're taking the exam. Don't get bogged down on what you don't know. Stay focused and just be sure to ace what you do know how to answer 🙂

Hey there congratulations! I'm trying to decide on time allocation for REG. Any advice on how much time to leave for SIMS?

@CPA2021 I'm a rather slow test taker, so really had to work on keeping myself moving and not getting bogged down by the questions I was unsure of. My goal was to finish each testlet in 30 minutes. If it started getting to 35 minutes, my plan was to book it and make sure that I absolutely did not exceed 40 minutes. I don't remember my exact timing, but I comfortably finished the first in 30-35 minutes and then the 2nd and 3rd I had to just keep the momentum going and finished each within 35-40. I had 90 minutes for the SIMS, which honestly felt perfect. I'd even say I could've probably performed the same on SIMS with a little less time. I was able to knock out everything I knew, and then still had remaining time to search for stuff in the AL. I ate up a lot of time looking for things in the AL that weren't in there though, so not having enough time to do that wouldn't have affected my performance.

When I walked out I was wishing I slowed myself down a teeny bit on the MCQs and double checked my flagged questions rather than leaving my guesses, but having received my 91, no regrets!

REG was the only test I took that actually felt reasonable. It was the closest test to the review materials. The mcq were manageable as were the SIMS. I felt it was the easiest of the 4 tests; the other three felt like they were out of left field. I thought maybe I had failed REG because of this but it turns out I just knew the material well. Bottom line, don't let your feelings give you doubt. This test is designed to make sure you have no idea how you did so take it all in stride.

CB thanks so much – I'm not that fast either and I have to make sure I keep moving. In fact I am sure that doing that was one of the key things that helped me pass BEC. I flag questions, but rarely have the time to go back and go over them.

    Hi,

Just wanted to share my experience with this exam in hopes of bringing a little faith to those awaiting exam score releases. When I walked out of REG, I felt completely defeated and demoralized – cried on my drive home because I felt as though i was well prepared for the exam and thought I had completely bombed it! I stressed for nearly three weeks and suffered from major anxiety as the score release date approached. To my surprise – I passed with an 80! This just proves that you can't beat yourself up thinking you failed – there's always a possibility that you might've passed, especially if you took advantages of all the resources available to you! Now, for my last exam, BEC – wish me luck!
