REG review is going to be brutal!

Started the review for REG today (I have a plenty of time, as my test is on July 20th), but man oh man, going through the Ninja testbank is going to take a lot of time! Thinking that in this case it will definitely have to be quality over quantity (in terms of # multiple choice questions) because I find that the only meaningful way for me to review and go through these is to refer to my notes as I go to cement the knowledge…. For those who have taken REG and passed, what was your best review strategy? I plan on doing Becker progress tests concurrently with Ninja MCQ and SIMS from now on….

Seems like a good plan to me. For my review, I went through the wiley test bank and then went through the NINJA MCQ. I also made 2 review sheets. One of the main points from all the lessons and the other one was from the multiple choice questions that I found to be tricky or hard. Keep on hitting has much multiple choice questions as you can a day and don't forget to review the SIMS. The day before the test I would just re-read those two review sheets that I made.

    Good luck!

Repetition is key. REG's mcq's are probably the most straightforward out of all the exams so there shouldn't be many surprises. Make sure you know basis inside and out for corps, s corps, partnerships, and property transactions. I'd also practice as many sims as you can towards the end of your review. I found REG sims to be the most difficult compared to FAR and AUD. I'd also try and skim through the book the week leading up to your exam. It's a good overall review and the material will be fresh in your head. You'd be surprised how many little things you'll pick up on.

Thank you-I will keep all those points in mind! Yes, at this point, the basis is my biggest concern, especially for corporations, and on disposal of property. I think when I see a word “basis” I panic:) but I have time, and I will use it!

Basis is huge! I cannot reiterate that enough. Also, sims, sims, and more sims. They reinforce the material and in my opinion are what will pass/fail you. I took reg 5 times and every time besides once I scored comparable or stronger on MCQ's and the common denominator was weaker on sims.

If you have the money I recommend Gleim for the sim test bank, they helped get me over the hump. Good luck!

@HoosierCPA-I am using Becker and Ninja-do you think those were inadequate (if you used them?) Yes, I practiced a ton of SIMS for AUD and plan on doing the same here….

For REG I used Ninja mcq/sim bank and Becker as well. If you are only going off those 2 I would say don't waste your time with Ninja sims. Becker sims are far more in line with the actual exam but are not quite as good as Gleim (but they are still good!).

To narrow your sim bank I would stick with Individual and Corp tax. You can work on b-law and all that other garbage to help reinforce the material but don't expect to see them in Sim format on the actual exam.

REG is the hardest exam IMO. It's the only exam I failed (with a 74).

Listen to the advice above…it is all really good advice
