I used Becker to prepare but the sims weren’t anything close to similar. There were at least 3 sims where the format was the kind where you are writing a letter response and need to select from the drop down for each paragraph what the right wording should be (similar to the format of AUD sims).

This was my first time taking REG, and I already took (and passed) BEC & AUD. I’m not sure if it’s the new format, or just specific to REG, but I thought the sims were unnecessarily long. The sheer amount of information in any given sim could have taken a normal person 10 minutes just to read it all. That doesn’t leave you much time to actually answer the questions.

Also, I think it’s time they improve the software. If 50% of the exam is going to be sims, they need to make it more user-friendly when it comes to the split screen. You can’t zoom, you can’t pin to the sides (like in Windows 7 or 10). I thought that all of the tabbing back and forth to all of the different exhibits wasted so much time.

I’m sure content is hit or miss, but I did get one business law sim for which you were supposed to use the authoritative literature to find the answers.

Oh, and for half of my exam there was a damn marching band practicing outside in the street! You can’t make this stuff up! The woman at Prometric told me she thought it was obnoxious enough that she filed a report. Any idea what happens when something like that disrupts or disturbs an exam?

Thanks for the information! I take my test soon so its good to hear from someone who has taken it. I am also using Becker so my plan is to work on Sims so I can get accustomed to how they feel, and do a bunch of progress tests. I have two final reviews which I will also be using. Could you give me a run down of what you believe will be important?

Know the basis rules for formation, liquidation and non-liquidating distributions from all different entities. Both to the partner or shareholders and also to the Corp or partnership. That goes especially for property. Like kind exchange also important.

I thought Becker prep was too easy when I was preparing and it proved true. The exam had much trickier questions.

Don't bother practicing Sims unless you are trying to understand concepts. Sims format on exam was nothing like Becker.

I had more business law than I expected.

What percentage of your exam was b-law. I thought it was gonna be very minimal.

Hello .. I took my Reg exam last week and am dreadfully waiting for my result which is not until December release date.

I'm commenting on your post because by your description, I believe I had the same Sims testlest as you (3 mc drop down DRS and the “use the Authoritative literature” for the business law sim).. my question is how did you feel when you left the test after these sims? I'm feeling like it might have ruined my chances of passing. Just curious if you felt bad after as well.

Yes, I had this exact exam too, I think. Nailed the MCQ's. The SIMs were beyond ridiculous. Wouldn't be surprised if I only got 2 or 3 right. 🙁
