Hey guys, for those of you that have taken REG, what was your experience like and what topics would you recommend spending my final hours of review on? I am pretty nervous simply because I think there is so much information and details to know for this section.

Focus on your weakness. What areas are you weak in based on your multiple choice questions? You need to focus on your weakness for your final review. Know the difference between pre and after taxed money. Why is this important? It is because you know what gets taxed and not. For instance, lets say you bought property for 10000 and you sold it for 15000. Only the gain 5000 is taxes. 10000 does not get taxed because youve already paid taxes on it when youve earned that 10000. This might seem very obvious but understanding this fully will help you on the simulations
Definitely know how to compute basis, and tax implications on various entities of contributions and distributions. In regards to business law just know the basics and fundamentals.
My experience on the exam was that the multiple questions were pretty straightforward and sims were pretty manageable. Surprisingly i got two research questions on REG, so definitely spend some time becoming familiar with the research questions. I thought i would get in the 80s but ended up getting 79. It shows how difficult the exam is Good luck!

I took REG with the flu and don't remember anything except that I had a coughing fit so bad I thought I was going to throw-up at the end of Testlet 3 and submitted it before I was ready so I could take my break. I was so sick I didn't care if I failed, I just wanted to go home and go back to bed. I got an 88. The moral of this story is, be grateful you don't have the flu. Relax. You'll be fine.

I've found an anomaly in the Space-Time Continuum. NASBA and the AICPA are in the 19th century. They use slide rules to score the exam, and then they send the scores by Pony Express to the State Boards. That's why it takes so long for them to do a score release.

Hey Zman, please share your experience. Also you mock exam scores if you will.

Make sure you have all the entity taxation stuff down (Partnership vs. S Corp, etc.) especially how to compute the basis after a certain transaction. Don't skip over BLAW too because they can be super easy MCQ points 🙂 I am very (un)patiently awaiting my REG score to come out any day now… Good luck!

I'll just say that if you studied for more that 100 hours, you know more than you think so don't freak out

Remember that S Corps, Partnerships, C Corps, all have different basis calculations. Mentally (rather than physically) map out all of the call of the questions pertaining to the entities (Basis, Gains, Losses, Taxable Income, Profit, Nonrecourse/recourse liabilties, what's not included in one calculation that's include in the other, etc.)

Read the Foreign taxation sections at least once thoroughly. I got about 11 MCQ on both testlets combined and although I think they were the “practice/mock” questions or whatever you call them…I seen way too many to feel comfortable about passing, even though I did

Remember that you can use your authoritative literature in the SIMs and some SIMs may want to to use the literature even if that call of the question doesn't request it

Remember to go with your muscle memory and not to freak out

Do all of the one liner questions first, don't even read the long questions…then once you're done with the short questions, go to the long questions, this is especially important for REG. You'll thank yourself later.

Most importantly, do not accept defeat even when you feel like the test has outdone you

Really not sure how I feel about it. I know for a fact that I got the research sim right and I am fairly confident on at least two others. For the MCQ's, I sacrificed time studying ethics to study more tax stuff and I got a lot of nit-picky questions about ethics so i have no idea. Going through the MCQ's I felt like I was making educated guesses on everything so I think I probably blew this one. Oh well who knows? I'll prepare for the worst and pray for the best.

Hey everyone! I'm taking REG tomorrow for the first time and I'm completely overwhelmed because it seems like there's so much info. Does anyone have any last minute tips? Did anyone look at the AICPA sample exam before theirs and thought it helps??
