I want to pass this but how should I go on about it? I’m reading the Wiley Text and there is too much info to write down. I decided to highlight the text.

Ok so here is an example. I see this:

“For corporations, all capital gains, both short and long-term, are taxed @ regular ordinary income rates. Corporations do not have a preferential tax rate for long-term capital gains. One exception: corps. can tax gain from sales of timber held more than 15 years at a max. rate of 23.8%”

^ How the hell am I suppose to memorize this? or write this down? Is this gunna be tested? and this is an example. There are many more regulations like these. I might just go over the MCQs and pray for the best. So how should I go about studying REG?

That's why I didn't use WILEY, because even though they have everything it was just too much info for me to process. A friend gave me they're old book to use as a supplement but after reading the individual tax chapter I said forget it, I have enough trouble trying to keep Ninja and Roger stuff in my brain.

If you want to continue using the review course you can but I would suggest studying with new material because if it isn't sinking in, it doesn't matter how much you paid for it..

There's so much info to remember to begin with I didn't want to be stuck on even more minituate details that you don't have a background in tax or a photographic memory, you're not going to be able to have it sink in fast anyway.

REG is more conceptual than it seems (although it does involve a hell lot of complicated computations) so it's more important you get the gist of what happens to money depending on the character. Memorizing exact amounts of all those extra numbers isn't really necessary.

    For my REG review experience:

Roger has too little info (but he tries to pound it in; so I supplemented with Ninja) and Wiley has too much. You might want to supplement with an easier book/audio/video course at first at least.

I tend to pay piece by piece regarding how necessary stuff is. Like videos – will not pay attention for the long run no matter how exciting/useful/clear it is..ugh.

I passed using Ninja (mcq & book) and Roger (whole course package)(although technically I rescheduled 3 times*). You might want to substitute for an audio course or pay for a piece of a simpler course. I think it also depends on how you learn and whatnot.

this is why people dole out thousands of $ for comprehensive review courses.
competent seasoned instructors can usually tell you what to memorize to pass.
remember, your goal isn't getting 100%. you only need 75% to pass.
there are things you MUST memorize and there are things you may glance over.
it's just hard for test takers who never analyzed the exam to tell which is which by themselves.

now, if you want to save some money, you can also just keep giving it a go at the textbooks.
trust me, you can pass with enough repetition and concentration.
there are literally thousands of people every year who pass w/o the help of expensive review courses.

    always remember.
it doesn't take a genius to pass the cpa exam.
just good ol' disciplined hard work will do.
    good luck.

Write down the most from the MCQs you miss. Try to focus on the main idea of the section the drill to the smaller parts. For topics you struggle with answer progress test questions with the book open. Also determine the key words in the fact pattern that cause you act as in add, multiply, divide, exclude. Understand the game with reg is pattern recognition & memorization.
