Retakes and Losing Credits

Hi, so I am getting very discouraged… especially with the latest score release. I lost BEC Credit thanks to not passing Auditing leaving me with only one passed exam, REG. I have now taken Auditing 5 times with most recent scores being 71, 74, and 70 yesterday. I don’t know what I am missing and what’s not working but I am getting fed up with paying for exams to not pass them. I have missed FAR as well 4 times now with scores of 73, 68, and 71. I am starting to wonder if maybe this is a sign I am not supposed to become a CPA.

Where do yall get encouragement and where/when do you begin studying again? I feel completely lost; I felt adequately prepared each time and generally felt good about my exams on test days. I have been using Becker but it’s now expired and I have been using Ninja and Becker Cram course lately. I am very dangerously close to calling the whole process off and just being an accountant. Losing credit for a prior passed exam may be the last straw.

    REG 67, 81

BEC 66, 75, 90 (lost credit and had to retake)

    FAR 73, 68, 71, 80

    AUD 59, 61, 71, 70, 74, 78

I am DONE with the CPA forever. I cannot express how good that feels

That really sucks. I don't have advice for you, but I admire your persistence to get to this point. I believe you can do it, and all of this struggle will make it even sweeter when you do!

Why pass four exams when you can pass six?

    AUD - 87 (expired, 2/12), 81 (7/19)

    BEC - 81 (expired, 4/12), 86 (7/19)

    FAR - 89 (4/19)

    REG - 82 (5/19)

I feel your pain! Do not quit. I've been at this for years and I have lost credit on all 4 sections. I only have one more retake to go and yes, this process can break your heart. My advice is to go for your worst section (probably FAR) and don't switch sections until you pass it. Since AUD is giving you problems, do that one after FAR and drill Ninja MCQ as hard as you can. I think that Ninja is unbeatable for AUD. After that, it sounds like REG and BEC are easy for you. I know that for me, I needed different strategy/study materials for AUD and BEC than I did for FAR and REG. Hope that helps.

    AUD - 79
    BEC - 91
    FAR - 76
    REG - 76
This is not goodbye, this is only: I'm never going to see you again.

    BEC - 74,85 Expired (12/09/14)
    AUD - 75 Expired (04/23/11)
    FAR - 74, 78
    REG - TBD

I won't tell you that you have to stick with it no matter what. Only you can decide that. When I finished, it never was an overwhelming sense of joy that I suppose other people have when they make it through, only relief. The main satisfaction I have out of the thing now is that I don't have to study for it and sweat out score releases anymore. That's not exactly a ringing endorsement for how valuable I think it is. If I had failed one or two, I can tell you for sure that I would not have kept going. I cannot imagine sticking this thing out like you already have; you are tough as nails! I guess my point is that it's okay to decide that it's not worth it. You'll always be so much more than “just an accountant.”

All that said, I know you CAN do it, if you decide to keep going. The key is being honest about where you are in your studies. You have to get a handle on which topics you are weakest in. My acid test for each section was taking random quizzes in Ninja (from the entire test bank, not just whatever area I was studying) and looking at the progress reports after I built up 200 or so questions. You can narrow it down to the topics you are having the hardest time with, then study those like hell.

Best of luck to you no matter what you decide. Like I said, you can do it. But, if you decide not to, nobody is going to look down on you and you shouldn't look down on yourself. We don't have that much time here. When that time gets short, you're not going to care that you made spreadsheets and filed forms to earn a living, much less whether or not you had a credential that said you were good at making spreadsheets and filing forms.

    AUD - 95
    BEC - 87
    FAR - 84
    REG - 90

I appreciate the encouraging words, all. I just found out I received credit for FAR this morning using the eyeball trick. Kind of a silver lining in that I am back to 2/4 complete after losing BEC Credit. A little disappointed I couldn't have passed AUD and be DONE at this point but all in God's timing. Hope to update back after a few months that I am done.
