Retaking BEC approximate study time?

I failed BEC with 61 (took it on Mar 10, 2017). I am currently studying for AUD (expected to take on May 3rd). If I take BEC again on May 31 with 2 weeks of full study time, do you think it’s going to be enough time to prep?

I am going to be tied up for finals right after AUD so I expect 2 weeks of full-time studying. Due to the change in format, I am not sure if it’s going to be enough time.. Any thoughts?

    Thank you!

    I have the same question!

    FAR - 83

    AUD - 75

    REG - 76

    BEC - 82

Everyone is different. I failed with a 61 as well. I am a tad bit over 100 hours with study time so far and do not feel like I am close to being ready.

The reason BEC is hard is because of the multitude of topics from different disciplines.
    Cost Accounting
    Finance
    Economics
    Supply Chain Management/ operations Management
    Strategic Management

Take it one bit at a time…

The WC is 15 easy points, so start with thelow hanging fruit.

It is essentially regurgitating what the prompt of the question was..Open, talk about what the prompt says. Have two or three paragraphs on something vaguely resembling the prompt..Close.. As long as there are no gramatical or spelling errors, those are easy points..

I skipped most of Module 6 in Becker…This exam is a gamble as the topics that you bust your butt for wont show up, or in a form you don't recognize. Use the CSO's and trust the study process.. Do multiple choice questions in 5-10 round groups. If you understand a concept, why do 100 on one topic. Time is of the essence.

Study intensely and take the exam. Don't drag it out.

I agree with @cessnapilot, I would Not skip F-6. Surprisingly, I had a decent amount of questions from that chapter. Of course Cost Accounting, IT, and Finace, weredefinitely more tested than F-6, but I still saw a decent amount of questions. Goodluck.

You probably would be better off postponing if you have all of that going on this window. How did you study the first time? If you only got a 61 with 2 weeks of study I would advise not to do the same this window.

Not saying skip B6, just saying thats what I did. Everything in life is about tradeoffs. And regardless if you study it all, you won't remember it all. Concentrate on the easier battles first.

We all want to be CPA's and if you do audit, you have to make judgements about what is material, whether an entity is able to continue as a going concern.(Yea I know seniors do this, mostly)

The CPA exam is no different. Make a judgement call on what you think will show up. Like a game of poker. Know when to hold, know when to fold.

Again the CSO's are your best friend. Ignore the noise and the chatter about what people see on their exams and trust your study process.

Studying for 12 hours, doesn't mean it's efficient studying. Make study periods short, and eat! Don't forget to eat! I used to do that, where I would study for hours when my brain is already out of juice. You can't drive a car on fumes, you can't run your brain without food.

All these exams are passable. I swear!

@mtaylo24 any recommendations for a study strategy for BEC? I watched all videos, take notes, rewrite formulas. Still I am not doing so hot. I was reading ninja notes on the regular but I stopped because they were not helping at the time. I feel like I need to make more connections before they start to help.

@SupraCPA42, How did you study the first time and what review did you go with? I'm not much of a note/video/reading guy. I mean, I do make the effort to read the book once or twice, but it doesn't stick the way MCQs do. You have to hit those MCQs hard! You should be doing no less than 100 a day and step them up to 200 or 300 a day whenever you are 2 weeks out from the exam (final review). Break it up in 6 areas, COSO, ECON, Financial Mgmt, IT, Strategic Planning, & Cost and master them one at a time. And always carve out time towards the end of each week to revisit and do a progress test, so everything stays fresh.

@mtaylo24 First time I used Roger exclusively. I tried to use the “Roger Method” Watch lectures, Read corresponding material, then do MCQ. Did not hit what you recommend but this time I round I can accomplish that goal. As of now I am doing all questions together. I think I am going to break it up as you recommend. What would you do If you get stuck on a question during a MCQ? Do you set a constraint that you won't spend more than 3-5 mins on it?

^^^I try not to spend that much time on a question. If you truly have no clue on a question, guess, re-read the question and explanation twice, make a physical or mental note, and then move on. Last time, I got into a habit of copying/pasting all of my wrong questions into a word doc and just reviewing that. I think It helped, but I started to do that process way too late in the window and didn't have time to review like I wanted to.

Oddly I studied 30 hours over 10 days and got a 77. That expired so I took it again this month and wanted to make sure I passed so I studied 100 hours over 18 days and got 78. Very weird test since I think that sort of increase in study time would have resulted in a better gain on any of the other 3 tests, but not BEC. Just a weird test, imo.
