It’s been over a year since I have taken FAR. Would taking the AICPA far sims practice for BEC and going over the FAR material a waste of my time or useful

Why not go over AICPA BEC test and sims? FAR and BEC material is very different. I would just focus on all resources for the exam I'm taking, which in your case is BEC.

I am not sure that it could hurt, except your time might be better spent focusing on BEC material.
The FAR AICPA is only 5 sims, so limited time investment. Keep in mind the samples on the AICPA website in no way reflect the magnitude of the actual SIMS.

I would look at the BEC sims for BEC and FAR sims for FAR. While there are overlapping topics, the overall characteristics of each exam are very different.
