Hi all. I am trying to relocate from Milwaukee, WI to Greater Chicago area. The problem is that I started a new job 2.5 months ago as a Senior Accountant. I worked as a Cost Accountant before. Should I list this Sr. Accountant job on my resume at all? Because if I do, I will be asked a lot of questions as to why I am relocating after 2.5 months all of sudden. Honestly my new job is a shit show and I’d like to start something else, but I’ve wanted to relocate to Illinois for a long time and now the timing is good as far as family matters go. The only thing I am puzzled about is how to explain such short tenure and if I should list it on my resume at all. Please help!!!

I think you should list it because it may be more difficult to explain the 2.5 months of not having a job. Could you say it was a temporary or contract position because you were looking to relocate?

I would list it and explain that you NEED to relocate when you are contacted by prospective employers. Perhaps include a brief explanation in your cover letter as well. Not listing it and having that employment gap will be a tougher thing to explain.

AIT13, saying that this job was temporary is a good solution! Thanks!

Have you obtained any skills as a direct result of this position that a potential employer will find desirable? If yes list it, if not don't bother. A resume is about your skill set not an autobiography.
