I'll consider it but does the job provide work/life balance?

    FAR - 75 | REG - 87 | AUD - 82 | LAW - 81

yes the position is covered under union regulations. You only work 40 hours a week. They offer flexible schedule such as flex Friday where you can get every other Friday or Monday off.

I work for the state right now and it really is great work/life balance wise + benefits. My only gripe is that growth can be very stagnant. Especially for someone who will be a licensed CPA. I made the move from public accounting to the state so I would have enough time to pass my exams and after AUD I'll be going back to my old firm.

    FAR: 78*, 75
    REG: 76*, 85
    BEC: 79*, 76
    AUD: 79*, 93

All scores expired, let's try this again.

    FAR - 78*
    AUD - 66, 79
    REG - 73, 76
    BEC - 79

@ahugemistake yeah I get what you are saying. Not having a CPA can be a challenge to moving up but that’s everywhere not just in government. That’s why we work so hard to get our CPAs! However, I have to say I have seen people here move up to management without having their CPAs and definitely moved up to at least an auditor III position. You just have to have the skills and be committed to learning and doing a good job.

@Jombe yes it's true Santa Cruz is pretty expensive but there are cities close by that are more affordable like Watsonville. Cost of living index in Wastonville is 164.5 (168.6 is the average for California) with median home price of $600k. The position is also entry level. There is a lot of room for advancement and salary increases. Also, Santa Cruz has been voted one of the best places to live!!

And you would be close to my favorite place on earth: Mystery Spot!

Why pass four exams when you can pass six?

    BEC - 81 (expired, 4/12), 86 (7/19)

    FAR - 89 (4/19)
