Side Gigs for baby CPAs

    Hi everyone!,

I haven’t passed the CPA exam (yet) but due to getting my MBA I’m kind of stuck in some debt and was thinking about getting a weekend job after I pass all four exams and use that extra money to pay off my student loans (on top of the recurring monthly payments I make). Does anyone have any recommendations for work? I added “baby CPA” because I’m not sure I can be a great consultant for small companies because I don’t have much work experience (2 years).

I can always go back to serving tables but I feel like a CPA with an MBA can find a side gig that pays more than $100/day.

    Thanks!

H&R Block always needs extra help during tax season.

H&R Block is open to hiring CPAs for weekend tax prep only?

Quickly looked at H&R tax associate/professional wages and they all are around $10/hr. I think Walmart pays more than that.

I've wondered this too. Any good resources or experiences out there for getting started on solo tax prep and/or partnering with an experienced small practice on a PT basis during tax season?

I did the Jackson Hewitt thing like 10 years ago and no way am I going back to the $10-12 /hr wages to file EITC forms when I can/should be filing schedule Cs or 1065's for several hundred $ each.

In another thread @onmywayto brought up upwork.com. I might look into that. The only thing that a H&R Block or Jackson Hewitt can offer me is some tax prep experience. It sounds like you have a lot more than I do.

I would never work for H&R block with a CPA license. You will never make what a CPA is worth. I tried finding side gigs out side of my business to try and help my then college student children and found I was over qualified for many of those jobs. As a matter of fact, Walmart told me I would just quit so they didn't hire me. So the best bet is working for the holidays for places like Walmart, target, etc..
I guess there are some sites out there that hire part time Accountants. Somebody post if there are some money makers out there.
