Signature after licensing

    I understand for work you put “CPA” behind your name, but what about with other signatures? If you sign a mortgage, or any other formal document/letter, would you sign “John Doe, CPA”?

    Some doctors through that MD around like it’s nobody’s business. They worked hard for it and they should, but does it make us look pretentious? I was licensed earlier this month and, other than my e-mail, I haven’t had any other opportunity to throw it around!

    I wouldn't.

    It looks pretentious like you said.

    To be technical about it, you would need to sign it John Doe, CPA (State) anyway.

    It matters where you are using the credentials. No, I wouldn't put it down on everything. Think about whether disclosing it makes a difference to the reader, other than for bragging rights.

    BEC = 79

    AUD = 79

    FAR = 84

    REG = 86

    Prayer + AICPA blueprints = my success

    BEC = 72 (6/08/16)
    FAR = ?
    REG = ?
    AUD = ?

    this post made me LOL. enjoy seeing CPA on your emails and business cards, don't sign it on mortgage docs. I'd also inform I'm a CPA to anyone who asks me what the weather is after I pass this thing once and for all.

    I can't wait to change the signature on my email, as well as out the credentials on my resume. That's going to be a great day that will make all of the stress worth it.

    I have two different signatures even at work. One with CPA for when it matters like sales and use tax, and one without CPA for when nobody cares like when a customer requests an invoice copy. I only ever use it when it's relevant.
