Sleep?

How many hours on average did you sleep per night while studying for the exams? I work full time about 55 hours per week and have two children under 6yrs. I normally sleep 8 hours per night because I need to maintain my health but I can’t see any other way to get 20+ hours per week of studying unless I start sacrificing sleep. Any ideas?

I average about 5-6 per night, typically work 40 hours and have 3 kids aged 4 and under. I feel it's necessary for FAR. When I studied for BEC and AUD I averaged 8 hours per night. Jeff posted something really good about how to utilitize time at work and on your commute to work to get a lot of hours in each week without it taking away from your job and home life. I'll see if I can find that post.

If you're not rested, your mind won't be functioning at optimal level, so your increased hours of study will be less effective. Personally, I notice below 8 hours of sleep I'm useless, so have stuck to 8-9 hours of sleep through even the busiest seasons of my life.

I can't seem to consistently get more than 6 Mon-Fri if I study due to my commute and family responsibilities. I try and sleep a few extra hours Sat and Sun to reset the old sleep clock.

I'd say I average 5-6 hours, I have kids 2 and almost 6. I work 35-40 hours a week. I do find that I go through spurts of total exhaustion, where I just can't make it past the kids bedtime, which my big guy is exhausted and goes right down, but the 2 year old sometimes isn't as easy to get to bed. I have my phone alarm set to wake me up at 4:30 M-F and I've been waking up at 5 on the weekends (sleeping in?). Today with the time change I actually woke up at 6, great… And now I'm at work trying to catch up because things have been crazy around here. Maybe you can handle less sleep every other night or something? You adjust, I used to sleep a full 8+ hours before I got serious about the exam.

    FAR - 7/13 - 72, 11/13- 74, 2/14- 82!!! Best score ever (for me)!!!
BEC - 1/14 - 75!!! Perfect score! First Pass! YAY!!!
    AUD - 8/14 - 80!!!
    REG - 5/14 - 72, 10/14 - 66, 1/15 - 78 - DONE FOREVER!!!
I did 5 of the UNA and CPAExcel classes to earn units.

If your kids are that young they're probably in bed by 8pm. So that should leave 8p-10p to study during the week and sleep 10p-6a is 8 hours. Then get 10 hours in on the weekend.

If you get an hour for lunch that's another 5 hours per week. If you usually eat at your desk change that habit and take a lunch.

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Massachusetts CPA (non reporting) since 3/12.

Thanks for the advice you guys. And mai1169 yes I do usually not really take a lunch I just eat at my desk so I may look into changing that.
