    @Wombat – I’m attempting to study for BEC now. I have Ninja 10 point combo. I was going to read ninja notes once through, then copy the notes to a legal pad. After that, I was going to recopy those notes to another note pad. Then hit MCQ. However, I am not very confident in the BEC material for I haven’t taken a lot of this stuff in college (I was actually a communications major in college). Should I read the ninja book instead? I have roughly six weeks before my test date.

    Anyone else can chime in too, but I was following what Wombat does.

    Thank you.

    I was a mass comm major in college, so we have a bit in common.

    I vote for copying the notes by hand, then copying them a second time from your first set of notes. The way I thought of it, Ninja Notes were used for getting a background in a topic. Then do MCQs to really get the material down.

    MCQs were where I really learned the material. Take detailed notes on every MCQ you get wrong or guess at. Make sure you understand the question and the answer before moving on to the next question. This will be slow at first.

    And if I'm not the Wombat that OP was referring to, then will the other Wombat please chime in?

    I'm pretty sure you're the Wombat that he was referring to.

    I do agree with this method. I would finish the book and then hit the MCQs. I believe that my score could have benefited if I actually finished the BEC MCQs.

    I do agree with copying the notes once, but I would take the second time and try to summarize the notes more. If you can put the book's language in your own language, it would help so much more with the memory retention.

    Something I've implemented since taking FAR is that when I get a question wrong, I would write it out. Even if I answer a question correctly, when I find the answer interesting, I would write it down. At the end of the day or week, I would take all those notes and type them up in my computer. Often, I would go back to those notes and see where I missed it and why.

    Thanks Wombat. How many MCQ would you set as your daily goal??

    @hasy
    – What I'm doing is going section by section in the Ninja notes. I'm handwriting the first section. Then I am going to type those notes in a more summarized fashion. Then I am going to do all the Ninja MCQ for that section. And then move on to the next Ninja note section (Economics —-> IT —-> Cost Accounting, etc.) Does this sound like a legitimate plan? The only section I actually read the entire book for was REG because I am a tax nerd. I could read the book cover to cover, but I feel a better use of my time will be spent writing and doing MCQ. If you have any tips for reading cover to cover, I'm all ears.

    I don't think I ever had a daily goal for number of questions, at least as a primary goal.

    Early on in the process, my goal was to get the information down by making sure I understood the question and how to get to the answer.

    As I got closer to my test dates, I reinforced what I had learned and worked on building speed.

    Here are my average MCQs per day by section:

    FAR – 124
    AUD – 123
    BEC – 118
    REG – 144

    Those numbers include days I didn't study and days early on in the process that I just took notes.

    Also, hand-write your second round of notes too.

    Dang. Did you work full-time at the time? I heard BEC MCQ take just as long as FAR.

    Yup. Full time.

    I was really strict with myself for my study schedule: 1/2 hour at lunch while i wolfed down a sandwich, 2 hours after work Monday-Friday at the library and 4 hours at Starbucks on Saturdays. Any missed sessions had to be made up.

    I think the problem with BEC is that while there isn't as much material as the other sections, none of the topics are interrelated like they are in FAR/AUD/REG.

    Hmm, the only section so far that I've READ is audit, because there's just so much wording in there so I just read it often to retain it. For BEC, there's a lot formulas, so for that, I took to writing them out, maybe twice. I made it a point to work a lot of formula questions and I ended up retaining them a lot better.

    I'm not sure if this method works for you. I did do MCQs after each section but I would purposely leave some untouched so I can do them later as a cumulative review. I did not finish BEC MCQs because I had finished the Roger's ones and there was so many at the time. I feel like for BEC, doing MCQs will save you. So try to finish your test bank and go over the trouble questions.

    @Wombat – Great. I just got finished with my first 40 MCQ for Economic Concepts. Took me over two hours with an overall score of 53% so far lol. I feel so awful about this part of the exam. Honestly, I don't think I'll have that much of a problem with Cost Accounting for I kind of enjoy the calculation problems. Its Economics and Finance that scare me. Feel like Economics may be one of the easier sections, too. And you're right, none of this stuff is interrelated really. Changing careers is one tough road to travel.

    @hasy
    – I plan on doing MCQ like crazy, as long as it doesn't take me two hours to do 40 MCQ. I probably shouldn't place too much emphasis on the MCQ until I get a big picture foundation of all the topics.
