Three More Weeks…

Three weeks from today is (oh dear god, please let me have passed AUD) my last exam and I am really freaking out. I am studying for BEC with Becker and feel like the chapters all take so damn long to get through. I do the lectures and write down the formulas or mnemonics and then do the mcq. I study around 15-20 hrs a week and barely finish a chapter (yes I am a slow learner).

My question is can anyone suggest the parts to not focus on as much? I.e. B2 financial valuation methods or financial decision model? I still intend on doing the mcq for all parts but would like to skim off a bit of the lectures.

I took BEC in March (before the changes and failed with a 74), then I did my retake back in May. Based off of my two experiences, I honestly cannot say which topics to skip because basically every topic was tested in my BEC exams. Granted IT and COSO appeared more than any other topics….especially IT (ugggh).

Do you find that the lecture really help you? I ask because I too watched all the lectures (Roger) for my exams the first time around. But for my two retakes (BEC and REG), I found the lectures to be an inefficient use of time. Everyone is different, but since you only have 3 weeks left, I would suggest that you skip the remaining lectures. Read the chapter and do all the MCQ for that chapter. Make notes on the ones you get wrong. Make flash cards for all formulas and commit ALL formulas to memory. This seems impossible at first because there are soooo many formulas for BEC, but you will be thankful you did this on exam day. Good luck!!

    FAR: 79 (7/25/16)
    AUD: 89 (10/3/16)
    REG: 69 (1/9/17); 83 (8/21/17)
    BEC: 74 (3/6/17); 90 (5/31/17)

@GinjaNinja, Thank you so much for the response! That is what I was afraid of. I assumed it was similar to the other tests where you couldn't really skip something.

I like the lectures when I have enough time as I feel that listening to someone explain the content helps a lot. But I also do pretty well with just reading, which is unfortunately what I will need to do now that I have run out of time!

I will definitely turn my formula sheet into flash cards, thank you for the idea!

My FAR expires a day after yours does! How funny/incredibly scary to think about!!

@reallytired You're welcome 🙂 It looks like we are in the same boat…we both have 2 exams passed. Retook one that we are waiting on the score for and are about to take our *hopefully* last one! I never thought the 18th month window would be an issue, but it's so close now!! I think about it everyday, it gives me sooo much anxiety! I just keep thinking what if I end up failing these both of these exams, then I am only half way done and only have technically 2 more tries to pass before my FAR expires!

    REG: 69 (1/9/17); 83 (8/21/17)

@GinjaNinja, Oh gosh we really are in the same boat basically!

I agree, I was so conceited when I first started studying and assumed I would be done last November… Now I am working my butt off to get BEC done with and pray that I get a 75 on AUD next week!

My work offers a bonus if you pass within a year of employment and my 1 year anniversary is 9/26, which does not help the fact that I am already incredibly stressed out as is!

@reallytired Same here! I thought I would be done by March though. I passed my first 2 exams (FAR and AUD) on my first try so I thought that I would have the same outcome with REG and BEC. Boy was I wrong! This exam has certainly humbled me!

    REG: 69 (1/9/17); 83 (8/21/17)
