Took FAR today…

So. I took FAR today. It was my first CPA Exam ever. I feel like I did relatively well/okay on MC. Sims, however, were a nightmare. Definitely did not hit the lottery with them.

I feel shitty about the exam, but not absolute shit. I expected it to be much worse (again, this was my first exam so I didn’t know what to expect).

That 75 is such an elusive number. I’m really nervous. Did anyone else feel like this after their exam and somehow pass? I’m prepared to start studying again in a few weeks. 🙁

I'm sure you passed. Aren't you the one who posted about your Beck mock exams 4 days ago? Based on your scores, you should be fine even though I don't want to give you a false hope. Also, it seems a lot of exam candidates feel the way you felt about the SIMs afterwards. Just hope for the best, prepare for the worst…

I think if you can nail at least one sim in each testlet, you'll be in very good shape. Never underestimate the power of partial credit.

It's tempting to look at a sim with 10 documents and give up without even trying, but I say the longer it is, the more chances you have of being right. 🙂

I think if you feel good after the exam, it's an anomaly..There is no way of knowing until getting your score. Good luck!

@Emily There is often said to be an inverse relationship between how you feel and how you did on an exam (e.g. you feel you bombed it but you actually passed). In my experience with FAR, it was my first exam too. I felt like I did not pass, but that there was still hope. I scored a 73. It stung a little (being so close to a 75 and not a 75), but it also boosted my confidence that I was on the right track.

Hopefully you passed. Be prepared to crack that book open again (it's no fun, I know), but you may not have to! Time will tell.

I felt terrible after I left FAR last Wednesday. I started looking at my notes again right away for sure I failed. I didn’t finish the last 2 sim questions just throwing some answers in hoping for some points. I’m having a hard time getting motivated to start studying again while waiting for the failing score. I have BEC left to retake, but really want to do far again since it’s still fresh on my mind. I feel like I’m wasting my time and not sure what to do at this point. I was sure I failed far walking out, but now seeing others past experiences, it’s giving me a slight glimmer of hope…

Emily, I hope my experience can bring you some peace of mind.

I took FAR as my first exam last October and walked out feeling completely shattered. The first testlet of MCQs was pretty straight forward, I marked a few questions but it wasn't a big deal. I thought I did okay but came the second testlet of MCQs and I completely lost motivation. The second testlet was easier than the first so that meant I did terribly bad on the first testlet. I even remember seeing at least two questions in testlet 2 that were asked in testlet 1.

Then came the SIMS. Those were so brutal. There was not a single SIM that I felt comfortable with. In fact, for one of the SIMs, I didn't even know where to begin and was sure I failed that one. Another SIM, although I knew the topic, my answers didn't balance so I definitely did not do well on that one either. All in all, when I walked out of that testing center, I was most certainly sure that I had failed the exam. I didn't even bother studying for the second section and casually just re-listened to the FAR lectures because I knew I would have to retake it.

On the day of the score release, I didn't even check my score because I knew I had failed. I checked my scores two days after… and you know what? I passed. I was in complete shock.

tldr; I was 100% sure I would fail FAR but ended up passing.

    Hey everyone,
This is my first post ever on the forum and I just wanted to share my experience with FAR. I took the test today and it was my very first exam. The MCQs were (in my opinion) really easy even though they covered a lot of NFP and Govt. so I felt pretty good going into the SIMS. However, that good feeling went away quickly. 6 out of 8 SIMS had multiple tabs and tons of info within the tabs it was so hard to pick out the info that was useful and answer the problem quickly. I know i got the research question wrong and I am pretty decent when it comes to those. In a positive light I know I at least got parts of every SIM correct and hoping for the best.
