Unsolicited linkedin invitations from big 4?

I’ve got about 6 years experience in Govt contracts. (20 years professional experience but only 6 in govt subcontracts).

On Friday I received an unsolicited request from someone in Govt contract services ( fraud investigation) to join their network on LinkedIn. Cool, no big deal. Today I received a request from his manager to join his network. Maybe my name was mentioned or they were talking about me? 2 requests in 2 business days from the same office/dept seems too coincidental.

So do I email them my resume? Seriously big 4 was never on the table for me (I’m far too old!) but it didn’t occur to me they have a WHOLE department for exactly the unusual niche of federal acquisition.

Not losing my mind, but intrigued. What say you?

I'm in the same boat as you. I am a sales/franchise tax auditor and I recently got a Linkedin request from a partner in Big 4. I just accepted it and did not think much of it.

Linkedin is very good in recognizing “people you may know”. So I think maybe the Big 4 department is trying to build its network and just tried to add as a friend everyone that Linkedin mentioned. If it was a friend request without a specific message, then it may be they sent a mass request to everyone.

By any chance, are you DCAA?

The first request I figured building network. The second request from higher up a day later has me wondering…..

Not DCAA, I'm an accounting manager for a manufacturer but I play well with DCAA LOL! I've taken a few govt acquisition classes that are for folks in GSA but open to anybody. I've got one very strong LinkedIn connection in DC who provides me consulting services but before he retired was a big player at DCMA. I was also considering they might be trying to connect to him?

Strange. Maybe try and snd one of those new contacts a request to chat about their job? Something like,

“Hi, while most of my background is in X, I'd be really interested in hearing more about Y service line at Z firm. Would you be able to clear out a few minutes some time to answer some questions I may have?”

If he ignores, you that's fine. It's not like he was a contact beforehand anyhow.

That's what I was thinking Mayo. Just a general “I'd like to learn more about what you do” or “What led you to specialize in govt contract specifically”

DrumNum, just FYI I sent a message as Mayo suggested asking about their department and sheepishly admitting I had no idea Big 4 had a specialty in this. He replied almost immediately that he'd like to see my resume and set up a phone interview, then added he had no idea Big 4 did govt contracts the entire time he worked for DCAA but his job is almost identical to what he did at DCAA.

So, if you're interested go ahead and reach out to them, you never know!

What is the big deal? LinkedIn is a great resource for networking, I use it every day myself. Just add them, and since your curiosity is now peaked, do some research on such said positions and see if they might be a good fit for you. If you think they would be, well, now key people at that firm are in your network, so a quick message expressing your interest might just get you an interview and maybe even a job.
