The score report is a meaningless document that should not be printed! This is was my 3rd REG attempt and I received a 73. How was I weaker on MCQs in 4/5 categories, comparable in 1/5, weaker overall in MCQs and SIMS.

Seems to me this test should be Pass/Fail bc the number seems arbitrary IMO. Or should I be more of a Pollyanna and think ” Gee golly I was so close, here ya go AICPA take $200 of my hard earned dollars and waste some more of my effn time with this BS sham of a process you call fair”

    Wanna_B-

I know you have been going at this for a while (2014? I think) and I can understand your frustration. Ive started this process in 2016 and have had 2-73's and 2-74's in this process. I've shelled out close to $5000 in exam fees, and prep software in 2 years. The $200 exam fee sucks badly, but the time I have sacrificed from my kids and happy hours is what really gets me.

It really comes down to luck—which exam you get AND if you take it in a window with less intelligent people since it is curved but the AICPA won't admit its curved. For people who got 73's and 74's most likley passed but were given these scores to keep pass rates under 50% and to maintain this BS “prestige” of a certificate. We all got college degrees , most of us work in accounting we are capable of a 75, but I really feel this whole “putting the time in and you will pass” is only 50% of the equation. The other half like I stated is what exam you get and how generous the curve is.

some may disagree…but this exam is really cut out for those right out of school in their early to mid 20's. I am in my late 30's and need to put in double time compared to my peers at the CPA firm I work in who are studying for the exam. I am not saying that people in their 30's , 40's etc cant pass b/c it has been done, but it makes it WAAAAY more challenging in these age categories.

In college I did well. I put the time in and I passed exams. What you put in is what you got out truly in college. With the CPA exam that does not hold true. You can put in 200 hours of quality time for one freaking part and still fail.

@Shawn in VA, I'm beginning to agree with you. Turning 32 next week, its been YEARS since I've taken intermediate 1, 2, Gov't, or Advanced, so its super frustrating to keep failing FAR over and over, especially without having any physical peers going through the process (I'm in industry). Meanwhile all of the baby accountants are crushing it like its nothing. One of our auditors were in the other week talking about taking the whole summer off before his start date to knock out all of the exams, he might have failed REG once by 1 point. I'm a little salty LOL!

Score report is kind of useless. Only compares your score to those in the 75-80 range and so vague.

I am 33 and spent the first 5 years out of school in a finance position and when I finally got back into accounting I was already more than halfway through my MBA, so I waited until that was done before taking on the CPA exam. I agree that this test is geared towards people fresh out of school. I try to get the entry level staff to get studying right away, but they tend to ignore me, granted i'd probably do the same as the last thing you want to do after graduating is study.

I study and sacrifice so much for these exams. I am starting to think that in order to pass you need to put in 30% studying 70% pure luck. I put in a shit ton of work for my AUD and BEC scores. But I will be the first to admit there was a lot of stuff I was unsure about and thanked my lucky stars they did not show up on exam day. I truly believe that some of these exams are harder then others and its really not fair. You just have to study hard and hope that you get a good test tailored to what information happened to stick into your brain. B.S. I just failed reg twice so time for my luck to turn around I pray. Until then I am going to keep on “plugging” along like everyone says.

    MTaylor-

Looking at your score sheet in your post…man…you got some patience 🙂 I have to give it to you …you have some persistance and dedication. I would have probably given up. Sorry to hear about FAR. You got it next time! Maybe try taking it early OCT while its fresh in your mind ?

Chandler- I only get score reports when I fail and I am a NASBA State (DE). THey are useless garbage. They are emailed to you 48 hours after the score release

@shawn You'd be surprised how many are similar if not worst, they just choose to focus on their passes, if any scores. I wish we still had access to the old site since most of the sigs got purged. Not that any of it really matters since none of it goes on your license…

I live in KY which is a state that reports scores on their website as opposed to NASBA. All I have available to me is the actual score online and then I get a letter in a couple days with the same thing. If I fail (which I have for FAR and AUD with 67 and 68, respectively), I get a score report. If I pass, they just tell me my score. So is Kentucky a state that only provides score reports if you fail? I'd be interested to see my score report on a passing grade, but I am happy enough just with passing! 🙂

I just received my score report for AUD. What a joke. I was weaker in 3/4 MC sections, comparable in 1/4. Weaker in overall MC, comparable in overall Simulations. Well no frick, I failed.

Also I thought I did terribly on the sims. Guess everyone else did too.

I just received my score report as well. I was Stronger in one MC category, comparable in two and weaker in two. Thus making me comparable in MC Overall but weaker for the SIMS. This somehow resulted me in a 65. I honestly think that I should have gotten higher then that based on these outcomes. I do not understand how they grade these exams WHATSOVER. Also with all this talk about the HUGE 2017 CPA change you would think they would at least edit the form from saying MC 60% and sims 40% absolutely ridiculous.
