I’ve heard Wall Street Journal and The Economist.

Basically I want something that I’ll enjoy reading, can help broaden my education on the world today as an accountant. To be able to talk to clients about more than just accounting, but finance as a whole.

My issue is that a lot of these magazines can be “TMZ-y”, where they can have clickbait articles, “listicles”, etc. I don’t want that.

    Any recommendations?

Usually when I want to check whats new in accounting firms, issues within the big 4 always amuses me.
Otherwise, when it comes to investments, I watch CNBC. This is the only channel on TV that I watch. Before when I started to get into investments, everything sounded new to me, but eventually I was able to build my own opinion and criticism of the things surrounding the investment world.
Another great thing is to watch hearings to have a whole picture of issues surrounding the investment world. The last two I have watched were the Wells Fargo cross-selling and crawl-back compensation issues and the health-care issues (Aetna dropping out of Obama care and how that affects other carriers' premiums). The full hearing of 2 hours is available in youtube, and they are all great and interesting to watch.
As for magazines, WSJ used to be great, went downhill and now they are recovering their credibility. I do not really suggest that, but as for the Economist, I heard from many people that they are great (Some of them Hedge fund managers), but I have not ever read it.
I believe that the best way to really learn about investments and getting yourself informed is by doing personal investments yourself. You will realize that you will learn a lot without even trying.

Try Forbes. You can read most, if not all, of it online. The tax blogs in there are usually pretty good – not sure about the overall financial articles but worth a shot. As for CNBC, I agree. I listen to it in the morning and generally have it streaming during the day. Even as background noise, it provides a good overview of what's going on in the financial world, and has an hourly news update so you have at least an idea of what's going on in the rest of the world. Depending on how high-profile a particular Senate hearing is, they sometimes broadcast those live too. 🙂

I suggest reading the daily Wall Street Journal. It's really a great resource and covers news, politics, culture, health, current events as well as business, financial, accounting, economics stories. There's always great items on business leaders, marketing, accounting/tax. I get it at my place of work and am much more informed and aware of current business and economic trends than someone who doesn't read it.

You don't need to subscribe to a magazines. Websites like Marketwatch, CNN Money, Forbes, Yahoo Finance, Business Insider, Reuters & etc. will have all the info you need.

If you have a LinkedIn account, you can follow these sites and they will be placed on your feed and be able to keep up with all business news.

The websites I listed is how I get all my news. When I talk to other accounting professionals, I never do not have anything say because of them and has helped me carry on many conversations.

Wall Street Journal is more like a newspaper. You can also subscribe digitally. Skynet is right, you can put these magazines in your feeds on social media and you will get all the major talking points.
