What is everyone using to pass? I’ve been studying for REG the last month and I’m doing AWFUL. I am currently using Surgent which I finally passed with FAR and AUD after many years and multiple study courses and almost giving up on ever passing. However, the lectures are really bad in Surgent for REG and aren’t covering a majority of the material. I don’t want to go back to Yaeger or Gleim since I couldn’t pass Far or Aud with either after multiple attempts. I’m thinking Roger. The thought of spending yet another $500-600 on study materials is making me sick after already investing thousands over the years. I don’t know if I should just stick with Surgent since it’s worked for 2 sections.s.

    Far – 74, 74, 74, 74, 75 8/17 (not even kidding with all the 74s)
    Aud – 74, 74, 74, 75 12/17
    Bec – 75 (expired 7/16)
Reg – not schedule, potential 4/18

    AUD - 75
    BEC - 75
    FAR - 75
    REG - NINJA in Training

NINJA has some cheaper materials…you might look into it. Plus there's a site called “cpaexamforfree” that asks the questions in a different way…also a good resource. And of course, master all the TBS on the AICPA sample exam.

Yaegar is for people who have been out of the game for awhile. Gleim is great, but it is more for self-studying (attacking the material head-on).

Rogers certainly has some good videos…many of which are available on Youtube

Use Ninja! I used Yaeger/Wiley for everything and it was great…until REG. Ended up getting Ninja 10 point combo for REG and passed easily. Test software was absolutely outstanding for REG.

    FAR - 75
    AUD - 72; 87
    REG - 64; 74; 84
    BEC - 88

@longshot- Did you fail REG with only wiley the first time? or you just decided to purchase ninja before attempting REG?

I am working through Wiley now and want to make sure I pass this thing. Considering Ninja as well.

It took me 4 attempts to pass REG (66, 67, 70, 77), but I had originally only been using Becker. Below is what all I used that got me to a passing score on my 4th attempt:

    Becker regular course
    Becker final review course
    Ninja MCQ
    Ninja Audio
    Ninja Notes

I was living/breathing REG, leading up to the exam. It was still so difficult. REG was the hardest section for me, but I do highly endorse each and every product (above). Whether you use 2 or all 5 of them, I strongly recommend supplementing your Becker course with something – be it Becker final review or some Ninja products (or both).

    Good luck!

I was able to score a 91 on REG using only Surgent. I did study for over 150 hours, but a lot of that was just having scheduled the exam too far out. I think I could have gotten the same score with much less studying.

I failed twice with Yaeger/Wiley. Got 64 then 74. With Ninja got 84 and a CPA license. Even my first 64 fail I was great at the business law crap, just bombed everything tax-because all Wiley test bank did was test anything but tax. Ninja hammered the hell out of not only tax, but the parts of tax I sucked at. Faced with the worst score of 74 and an expiring FAR, ninja saved my ass and I'm a CPA now because of it! Far cheaper, but far superior.

@ PJ – was searching for threads on how people used Surgent to study and found your post. Was curious how you went about actually using Surgent after doing the assessment? Did you just do MCQs until your eyes bled? Or, did you use their Dashboard and watched the recommended lectures and then did questions for that section? I just really don't know how to start. Would appreciate any feedback if you're still lurking around these forums.

    Thanks!

If you have more time (than money) I would go with the Gleim test bank and book.

It is demoralizing and takes a very long time but you will probably do well on the exam.

I used Becker for my first few attempts on REG but I didn't work for me.

    REG - 93 90% Gleim MCQ/book + 10% Wiley MCQ

    BEC - 79 100% Wiley MCQ/book

    FAR - 88 100% Gleim MCQ/book + Ninja Audios

    AUD - 85 100% Wiley MCQ/book + Ninja Audios

    Licensed CPA as of 2019

    CMA Pt 1  400  100% Gleim MCQ/book

    CMA Pt 2  Pending Score

Based upon the Ninja audio lectures (for FAR) I could see how these would be useful during your daily commute for extra reinforcement of topics.

I would assume the REG audios are just as good but you would have to try them out and see.

    REG - 93 90% Gleim MCQ/book + 10% Wiley MCQ

    BEC - 79 100% Wiley MCQ/book

    FAR - 88 100% Gleim MCQ/book + Ninja Audios

    AUD - 85 100% Wiley MCQ/book + Ninja Audios

    Licensed CPA as of 2019

    CMA Pt 1  400  100% Gleim MCQ/book

    CMA Pt 2  Pending Score

I thought Becker for Reg was great. Like you I did Surgent for a brief time on Reg (think I had a free trial) and thought the lectures were very lacking. I know people are down on Becker because of the cost, but after passing FAR with Roger, and BEC and REG with Becker, trying out surgent, Yaeger, etc., I truly believe Becker is the best you can buy.

    @Sdollen64

I completed Surgent's initial 400 question evaluation at the beginning of each exam section. Assuming nothing has changed, each exam section is divided into 4 or 5 main categories. For example, REG has ethics, business law, individual tax, property tax, and entities tax. I would start my studying with whichever of those categories had the lowest score on the initial assessment and work my way up.

For each of the 5 main categories, I would plow through all of the videos for the category and then do MCQ until I had seen them all. Select “new” to get MCQ you haven't seen before, obviously. After that I would target the subcategories with the lowest score and work my way up until they were all trending at least 70-80.

After getting all the subcategories trending scores up, I would move on to the next main category and go through the same process. I tried to finish all of the categories in about half of the time I had allotted for the exam. I would also periodically do reviews on completed sections to keep them fresh. Then I used the second half of my allotted study time to hammer MCQ's on all of the topics and do the simulation problems. I did a ton of these and I think it was hugely helpful for me. Overall, I did about 1,500 MCQ per exam section and took 700 total hours for all 4. I also took virtually zero notes except formulas for BEC, and I did no textbook reading whatsoever.
