Why Continuous Testing?

What’s the benefit to continuous testing when scores are released at a snail’s pace unless you test at the very end of a window? So let’s say you test earlier in the window but now the Prometric seats are booked up for the next month, potentially throwing you into the next window? I don’t see the logic here from the AICPA. Anyone have insight?

    why not?
    follow the money.
more testing days = more seats to fill = more money to be made from testing fees.
The old testing window method is archaic and outdated. It doesn't have a logical place in the computerized age.
They will still score delay to “statistically validate” the scores, but I see no logical reason to continue with black out periods.

Prometric seats come and go all the time. Even though it maybe filled out when you view, people are always canceling/switching seats to a different day. You just need to check from time to time to see if anything opens up.

That's what I figured Recked. Increasing applications will undoubtedly increase dollars. I wanted to believe the AICPA was better than that 😉 I was hoping there'd be a benefit for the candidates and if there are some, they seem to be very marginal. The biggest thing they could do to help us out would be to eliminate the 18 month rule or release our scores faster. I shouldn't have to wait almost a month for my score. I don't buy in to the hype about their quality control checks – blah blah blah nonsense.

I agree they should really speed up the score releases.

I doubt they'll ever eliminate the 18 month rule because it's nothing more than a barrier to entry. In fact, now that I've passed I wish they'll lower it to 15 months.

Lol, why 15 months? There's just too much variability in candidates; some don't work at all to some working very stressful jobs with kids. I've seen many smart people lose credits. Some get hit with medical issues… You have a low pass rate already then they lower the success rate by having people lose credits. Honestly, if I could go back and do it all again, I'd go into engineering. Less hoops and higher pay. There will come a time where prospective accountants will ask if it's worth it; some say we're already there. It all depends on how you look at it I guess and each persons circumstances will vary drastically.

    Continuous Testing Rule Adopted

“a Candidate can retake a Test Section once their grade for any previous attempt of the same Test Section has been released.”

    e.g.
Take your exam on 1/1/2020, score would probably be released on 2/8/2020, if you fail, instead of waiting until 4/1/2020 to retake (3 full months since you last used the material), you can retake in February as soon as you receive your NTS and are able to schedule your appointment. Material stays fresh in your mind. Do you think the pass rate would rise or fall?

@SGood – I don't think there is a positive correlation with pass rates and continuous testing. It really can go either way. Here's what I do know. Most candidates do not wait weeks for their score and do nothing in the meantime. They're often already onto studying the next section. So now you pump a few weeks of study time for your next section, and you find out you failed the previous. What do you do? I'd stay current with my next section personally. Chances are, most would do the same and at the end of the day, most will probably find that continuous testing isn't much benefit as they'll end up testing in the next window. I think the only time continuous testing will largely benefit a candidate is if they're not working and they study full-time.

There is 2 benefit 1) it creates more testing period. In state like California, there is are several testing sites so even if one is busy, you can drive to the other one. 2) I thought they were going to increase time you have to pass 4 exams from 18 months to 20. Is that false rumor?

That is just a rumor and by the way it was rumor was to be 24 month. Nothing has materialized or any word from the AICPA.
