Yaeger BEC lecture rant

Yaeger BEC lectures were beyond a waste of time for me. The costs far outweighed the benefits in my opinion. 90% of the lectures were absolutely worthless with Cindy Simpson just reading to you (at a very fast pace) straight from the book. I absorbed almost nothing from listening to her. Only at the end with cost accounting did there appear to be some real benefit. But then again, this benefit was only recognized when not being read to like a child.

23.5 hours of lecture took me probably 50 hours to get through because I was constantly pausing, highlighting, and re-tracking back through the lecture. Not until I actually read the material on my own did it start to sink in. I probably put in 130 hours total and most likely failed come 9/20. If all 130 of that was just me teaching myself, I think the results would be different. At least my confidence level about passing would be higher lol.

The best method I think would’ve been to skip the lectures completely, use just the provided handout and just focus on reading the book and doing the assigned problems (and then some) to focus on the more important concepts.

I was not a fan of their audit lecture either but at least Bulmash had a slightly better approach. Instead of him reading from the book he would just skim through it and tell you what areas to read (which i didn’t and that was my downfall regarding the recent 71 I received), which was quite the contrast from Cindy. Mainly he was working through mcq’s and explaining the material to you, which is 1000 times better than Cindy. Yes, she is extremely bright, knows her stuff, and is good at presenting a problem on the whiteboard in a very clear manner, but that is about it. I didn’t think she was good at conveying the material the vast majority of the time. I even had my dad listen in when she was going through a variance problem and he laughed and said “Is that even English?” She’s one of the fastest talkers I’ve ever heard in my life. Not a good trait teaching.

I didn’t watch much of their lectures for FAR, but used the Wiley book and Becker lectures. I think I made it through 1.5 lectures with Yaeger for FAR and was contemplating suicide so I had to shut it off. Becker’s lectures are 100x more bearable, but they kill you with the problems, which is unnecessary.

I think I’m done with lectures for the rest of my tests. If anything, with REG I might just skip through the lectures to where the MCQ’s are being shown and watch only that portion. Let me reiterate, out of the 3 sections I’ve watched lectures for, (FAR with Becker, AUD with Yaeger, BEC with Yaeger), BEC was by far the biggest waste of time. I’m rather shocked that some here say Cindy is a good teacher.

    AUD - 79
    BEC - 76
    FAR - 81
    REG - 84
    Finished!

    FAR (6/9/16) - 81
