What are your thoughts on the Yaeger CPA Review course? Lectures? Textbooks? I’m trying to decide between getting updated Becker materials and going with an altogether different course like Yaeger. Thanks in advance.

I have used Yaeger for 3 parts so far and about to start my 4th. I passed the first 3 sections on my first attempt, so it is working for me (supplemented with NINJA notes). The style is similar to a college class. They have some demo videos you should check out to see if you think it would be good for you. I love that they use Wiley materials. You get the Wiley book and online test bank with the course. Considering it's half the price of Becker I think it's a tremendous value. Their customer service has always been outstanding and you can email the professors questions and they will call you back and spend time helping you with whatever you are having trouble with. From what I hear Cindy Simpson teaching FAR is about the best out there for that section. I haven't seen any other review courses, but I thought she was great and a huge reason I passed that section my first try.

Also, I used their “pay now, ship later” option that Sonny (their sales guy) recommended. You buy the full course, but they only send you the sections when you want them. For instance, you could buy the course in one year, but may not need a section or two of it until the next year so you haven't bought material that will be out of date by the time you need them.

I used Yaeger for reg, bec, and far. Totally recommend it! I never heard of Yaeger until I visited Another71's forums. Glad I came here And listened to the recommendations.

Appreciate all the comments. Have any of you used Becker before using Yaeger? Just wondering about the comparison between the two. Thanks again.

i used becker twice, first self study…failed, second in class…failed

needed a new change of pace so i converted to yaeger and started passing. becker is good but just wasn't for me

the main diff is yaeger works mcq with you in a lot more detail and cindy is amazing

becker's passmaster software is awesome compared to the wiley software, especially nowadays

let me know if you have any other question

    I'm batting 1.000(2/2) using Yaeger.

I find Phil to be hilarious, but I can see how some people would be turned off by his humor. Cyndi is amazing, too. The other guy is rough around the edges, but his lectures are spot on.

The forums seem to be pretty solid and I always feel like an idiot for not taking advantage of the service.

One of these days I'm going to call the hotline and tell Phil how awesome he is!

@nolifecpa: thanks for that info. What did you think about the Wiley materials? Where they good in comparison to Becker's? I have read in other forums that Yaeger uses Wiley books and those books are pretty wordy. What did you think? I'm really struggling with (a) go ahead and get updated Becker materials, or (b) start fresh with Yaeger CPA Review. Thanks.

Yaeger uses the wiley books and the books are wayyyyyy more detailed compared to becker. some modules are pretty straight forward, some have these very long examples that are hard to follow and leave you more confused. there is also additional details in the back of the book such as FASB, IRC, etc.

if you half assed becker i would update

if you gave it your all with becker and still came up short i would make the switch. when i switched materials it did 2 things. 1) it gave me a different view of the materials. 2) it gave me new motivation to see if i can pass

I used Yaeger for FAR and passed with a 76, I just got my score last week. Listening to the lectures was difficult for me, but it would have been that way with any course. I think the instruction is excellent and the instructors guided me through the book and selected multiple choice questions to work which they felt were relevant. Another very valuable part of the course was the hotline. I called Phil Yaeger several times with technical questions as well as test taking strategy questions. He always got back to me very promptly if he wasn't available when I called. I never felt rushed when I was on the phone with Phil and he always made sure that I understood whatever topic I have called him about.

I just purchased the REG course from Yaeger because I was so happy with the result of FAR.

@nolifecpa: Thanks for all the help. Yes, I probably half-assed Becker. It's funny that you said that because I could've definitely studied harder and longer. Life simply got in the way, and I let it and probably could have done more to not let it. So, maybe I Shiism update to Becker 2013 and try again. I've heard good things about bother Becker and Yaeger, so it's hard. Becker does seen to work problems without telling you why. That sometimes confuses me and I'm left wondering.

@Jeff: Thank you sir. Yes, I actually have watched the Yaeger demos and they seem fine to me. Becker's instructors are more fast-packed and do not explain in depth very much. Any advice you can provide will be appreciated. Thanks!

I used Yeager for FAR (twice) & AUD once and failed each part. I did not start passing until I switched to Becker. I did not like Yeager's videos, terribly boring (except for Cindy). Becker worked better for me because it focused exactly on what was on the exam. But you have to follow Becker's plan to be successful. I have been battling CPA exam for 2.5 years. The first 1.5 I used Yeager and did not pass one test, for the past year I used only Becker & have passed 3 parts.

@dont5253: Thanks for posting your experiences with both the review courses. What exactly was the study routine you followed with Becker? For example, did you read the text and watch the lectures or did you do both maybe? I am just trying to gauge what I did wrong with Becker. Thanks!
