I was 43 when I started studying for the CPA exam. I passed my last part (REG) in Feb when I was 45. Wish I would have taken it when I was 34. Good luck.

@CPA788 I would have to agree with re2pect about adding some additional SIMS. The two weeks before my REG exam on 2/25 I signed up for the 2 week free trial from Wiley. I did as many SIMS as I could. I would try to get two done in the morning before breakfast, one at lunch and then two or 3 at night before tackling MCQs. It is my belief that seeing something different those two weeks helped me get over the hump. Also, I have about 15 pages of notes, items to memorize and memory aides that my wife called out to me starting about a month before my test. We would do our best to cover 3 to 4 pages a night. As I became more comfortable with the material we were able to cover more pages during a night. I've read where someone said that REG is a high level test, but I disagree, the devil is in the details. That is what helped me go from a 74 to an 81 and being done with these exams. Good luck to you. I'll be glad to share my notes if you're interested.

Congrats @GARYDEGIOVANNI. It is an awesome feeling. I found out this morning that I passed REG as well and I'm done! I've enjoyed the last 10 days of not studying and will get use to it going forward.

@ re2pect It sounds like we had a very similar experience. I knew the answer to the research question but had a very difficult time finding it. Like you the key words wouldn't bring up anything. By the grace of God I had about 7 minutes left after I finished all of the other SIMS and I was able to go back and find a more correct IRC reference for my research question.

I do my best not to guess if my MCQ are moderate or difficult. My thinking is a difficult topic for one person may not be difficult for someone else. My strength is in personal and partnership taxes, so if there were lots of those I would not think they are difficult. If the test would hit me with tons of Business Law, I might would think those are more difficult.

I'm enjoying the time off. It is weird not studying in the mornings before breakfast and in the evenings as soon as I get home from work. I'm hoping that the 8th is good to both of us. My wife would very much like to have her husband back from the past two years of study time.

Good luck tomorrow @ re2pect. My experience yesterday was ok. I felt like I knew the material for the MCQ really well. Only marked about a total of 5 for all 3 testlets. SIMS were not has bad as they could have been. It took more time than I wanted to find the research answer. I'm hoping the off the wall out of left field SIM was a pretest question. Now waiting till March 8th.

I agree. Roger has many grammatical mistakes in the books and questions. We do pay a great deal of money and the materials should be correct. My test is tomorrow at 11am. Right now my average score in NINJA with 1941 questions answered is 80% trending is 86.8%. In Wiley it is 84% with 360 questions answered. Over the past two months I've picked up several concepts that I missed the first time around. I feel a little more confident because I'm getting questions with those concepts correct. I hope it is enough. I do like the Wiley sims and they are more like the exam than others I've tried. Just keep pounding away at the MCQ and sims for the last day. 🙂

That is where I added it. I wonder if it is just a mistake on their part.

@ re2pect I was using SIMPLE and ended up getting a good portion of the sim wrong because I added back the exemptions. I checked on the IRS website for form 6251 and couldn't find where to add back the exemptions.

I have the two week free access to Wiley review. This morning I worked TBSRWO0034 Form 6251 an individual AMT sim. It was a married couple who were 52 with no dependents. It listed personal exemptions at $3,900 x 2 = $7,800 one for the husband and one for the wife. But in the solution it doesn't add this back in the calculation of AMT. According to Roger I was under the impression that deductions (standardized or itemized) and exemptions (personal and dependent) were added back. Am I missing something here?

    Thanks

I was missing the $1,000 disallowed medical expenses. Thank you. That could be just the information needed to pass this test.
