I had the same experience back in March when i took BEC – first testlet was hard, then second testlet was allll conceptual and stuff I felt wasn't in the book. SIMS were brutal – walked out of the test and cried in the car on the way home. I passed with a 92. With your other scores, I wouldn't be too worried! you got this!

What were the other answer choices? Were any of the Fiduciary funds included in the answer choices?

I'm using Becker, and a section in my book is titled “Net Position and Components Thereof (Proprietary and Government-Wide). It further goes on to say that net position is reported in the gov wide FS and proprietary fund balance sheets – this represents net equity. Fiduciary funds are not included in government-wide financial statements, so this could be why the Ninja question left the fiduciary funds out of the answer choices.

You're right though, that is confusing as Fiduciary fund FS do include fiduciary net position.

Thanks for all the tips and motivation!

I am about 9 days away from my exam and have taken two Mock exams so far (scored a 62 on Mock 1 and a 70 on Mock 2). I've been going through one chapter a day, re-reading the book, taking notes, and doing MCQ's and i think it's working. Not looking forward to the long wait between taking the exam and getting my score back on Nov 10 – I guess i will just try to get the Ethics exam done during that time.

I highly recommend going through ALL of the AICPA released questions. And I know the studying for BEC is brutal because it's all over the place, but try to nail down all of the chapters, with an emphasis on COSO, Econ, and IT. With the SIMS, look through each of them when you get to the testlet and get the easy points first (i.e. start with the easy ones that you know and do the hard ones last). For WC, make sure to use buzz words even if you don't know much about the topic, and restate the question in your answer.

What really helped me studying for BEC was doing the practice exams on Becker (only about 10 MCQ at a time) so that it mixed up the chapters and really forced me to learn the different topics. When I studied for BEC, I focused most of my time nailing the concepts and the MCQs, because I realized that as long as i am familiar with the topic and can do well on the MCQs, I could scrounge for points on whatever SIM was thrown at me.

    Good luck, you've got this!!!

During my last week of review for BEC, I took my final Mock exam and went over my weak areas that were identified from the exam. I ran through practice testlets of about 10 MCQs each to not overwhelm myself. Once I started averaging 80 to 100% on those, I felt a lot better. Go through ALL of the AICPA recently released questions, especially the SIM ones. Those helped me a lot. Make sure you understand the concepts behind things and not just memorize calculations – for example, understand what could have caused a certain ratio to increase/ decrease. Do not get too hung up on the Written Communication section.

I took my BEC exam back in March – SIMS were brutal but I just kept going and answered them as best I could. I had about 45 minutes left for the WC – didn't know a single topic on each of the 3 questions but I just wrote in the format that Becker lays out and put some buzz words in – the timer ran out on me right when i finished my last WC so I wasn't able to look them over – passed with a 92. You got this!

Took Reg back in November – Walked out feeling absolutely TERRIBLE. I had a very similar experience such as yours where MC was moderate… Then moved onto SIMS and they were absolutely BRUTAL. Like from another world. I was only kinda sure about one of them. I was expecting a score of 60 or below and was dreading score release. I was contemplating not even looking the night of score release because i didnt want to ruin my night but I finally got up the courage to do it and got an 84. I was completely shocked – dont know how i got that score but dont care – so, theres HOPE! im sure you did just fine

yeah I've heard that about the second testlet getting harder. But regardless, even if i did well on MQ, think I bombed the sims so theres a slim chance i passed
