I just passed my last exam in December. I am 32. I cannot find a public accounting job. Hopefully that changes soon.

There have been multiple people respond and I appreciate any feedback.

I tried the recruiter route. I met a couple good people and got stood up by one. It seems as though they aren't great for Staff Positions at CPA firms. The firms know they have enough candidates applying by themselves that they have no reason to pay a recruiter. I haven't had luck with non CPA firm positions with recruiters.

I know all about researching companies and asking good questions. I make sure I spend quality time understanding the company, their values, and other information before any interview. I want to make them feel as though they were my first choice.

Maybe I am unrealistic to think I should get a job this quick. I am sure there are people unemployed that would love to be in my position (employed but looking). It is just frustrating getting interviews and consistently getting turned down. It wears on you…

I feel I am an ideal employee. I do what they ask of me. I have great critical thinking/problem solving skills which I used to pass the CPA exams on one try. I am very physically active and enjoy many things outside of work. I was a food server for 6 years during school which I think has given me many life tools that will serve me well.

This process has just been deflating and thought it would be so much easier once I passed the exams. I just wanted to share my experience. Maybe it could take the pressure off of some people knowing that these exams will not make or break your career/life.

    Thanks again for any responses.

I think you are looking too far into this.

Read the text and do the MCQs. You can forget the rest of the stuff.

CPA excel's BEC section has the least amount of material by far. I finished all of the material with a grand total of 48 hours studied. You can have all of that done with a week left for review and shouldn't have to dedicate too much time daily.

I don't see how adjusting scores ruins the integrity of the license.

The AICPA has come out and stated that getting a 75 on the exam does not mean you got 75% of the questions correct. So knowing that, a candidate could possibly get 80% correct and get a 75 if the test was too easy, or could get 70% correct and get a 75 on a tougher exam.

If they had come out and said that getting a certain amount of questions correct would give you a passing score, then I could see why it would hurt the integrity of the license. It seems instead they have chosen a little ambiguity.

I am stunned by some of the comments on this thread. People really believe it is ‘rigged' and they claim that anyone that doesn't think that way is unintelligent? Just reading that comment gives me a little insight on why you are not passing the exam.

The AICPA has explained the MCQ's. There are medium and hard testlets. Obviously if you get a hard testlet, the tougher questions will be worth more than easier ones.

For the Simulations, I really believe everyone in a testing window gets very similar questions. If they turn out to be extremely hard, the AICPA will adjust scores to make sure they pass in the 40%-50% range. If this didn't happen, we would most likely see spikes in passing rates both ways.

I studied with just CPAexcel and passed all 4 on the first try. I realized a couple things while doing this. The MCQ's on the actual exam were easier than my review course's questions and the CPA Exam also tests basic test taking skills. Most of the MCQ's can be narrowed down to 2 answers with a basic understanding of the material.

Overall, I think it is great that they adjust scores. We don't want everyone passing this exam or it devalues CPA designation.

To me it sounds like it is difficult interpreting account balances on F/S when subsidiaries use one method (FIFO, straight line depreciation, etc.) while the parent uses different (LIFO, accelerated depreciation).

The readers of the consolidated F/S would have to keep this in mind when interpreting what balances in each accounts actually mean.

Finally got the courage (drank enough beer) to check my FAR score. Passed with a 77. I am officially done and now can try to lose the 10 lbs I put on while studying!

I am at work and will not look at my score for FAR until I leave. I don't want to ruin my day here.

I definitely am getting nervous after reading how you felt leaving the test center. I too thought I did decent on MCQ's and finished all of the SIMs. I for sure got the research question and had a decent understanding on the rest of the SIMs.

I have passed the other 3 on the first try and had a similar feeling on AUD and BEC.

I still dont know how I passed REG. I got the research but had to make educated guesses on the other 6 sims.

Crossing fingers for a pass tonight.

Unfortunately I live in Vegas. That is partially why I didn't study as much as I needed for FAR. I guess I'll see what happens tomorrow.

CPAexcel is sufficient in my opinion. Sometimes I think they go into too much detail on topics.

I drank my way through college and made sure I did just enough to graduate.

    You will be fine.

I would say I had a decent understanding of Economics prior to studying for BEC. There are a decent number of lessons on that topic as it is around 16%-20% of the exam.

I have only used CPAexcel for all of my tests and passed AUD, BEC, & REG on first try. Waiting for FAR score. I rarely have been asked a question on any exam where I haven't at least seen the material once.

If you are concerned, I would definitely supplement with Ninja MCQs. I personally haven't used them but everyone seems to love them and it couldn't hurt to get resources from somewhere other than your primary study material.
