4EverInDebt To be honest the cheaper one has a very good program and near 100% job placement rate (i think you get which school I'm talking about). A lot of people got employed by the Big 4.I didn't think it was worth it to do private for an accounting degree….I mean all you really care is if it's a target school, and the CPA. In my Master's program you have to write a lot of papers and do presentations but that's basically every business program. In my opinion the CPA exam is the hardest exam I've ever studied for due to the amount of material. You basically have to cram everything you learned in undergrad in a short period of time. However, the program is pretty challenging, it's no joke. You have to study very hard to get good grades.
Mi ChanParticipant@tncincy The Gleim book is super comprehensive. All the questions from the test bank can be referred to the details in each subunit, if you do the study session in the standard Gleim order you'll see what I mean. The book is very well-written to be honest, just like reading an academic paper, very concise but too much passive tone which I don't like. I used it for BEC and thought it was taking a very long time to go over the 20 units, I had to skim through unit 19 and 20 that covered cost accounting and didn't have time to finish their MCQs, and ended up failing. I don't blame Gleim cause I didn't exactly follow their approach, but I would like a more efficient way to create a structure in my brain, instead of trying to digest every detail slowly. We'll see what happens to my FAR exam with Ninja…

How long did you study for FAR? I have 30 days to study full time, practically it's more than enough but if I follow the Gleim approach I will spend at least 20 days on going through the chapters and 10 days for review (if I absolutely stick to the plan). The problem is I don't find myself being able to finish every unit (reading, adaptive quiz, MCQs, Sims) in one day and retain all the information. Is it ideal to just focus on doing questions rather than reading carefully and taking notes and still pass?
GleimMi ChanParticipant@A_Rish I agree I spent too little time and underestimated the exam. My weak area was cost accounting and I just kind of avoided the MCQs because I didn't have enough time to go through all the formulas and retain the information. The actual exam covered all topics and I had to guess a lot on the calculations. What I learned is all topics should be weighted equal, you cannot skimp on any unit just because you don't like it and think it won't be on the exam, it will definitely come back and get you.
Mi ChanParticipantWell failed BEC and I have already started studying for my FAR exam which I'll be taking in a month. I probably failed because I did not really study cost accounting and it was all over the exam. I HATED that material. Also I'm using Gleim and I feel like I'm spending too much time on trying to understand the details and their questions are really difficult with a lot of unnecessary information. I feel like FAR is easier than BEC because the topics are interrelated. Maybe I should just move on to FAR for now.
GleimMi ChanParticipantMi ChanParticipantI'm in Macc program now and I am hoping to pass at least three parts this summer. Fall will be busy since I'm going to take 4 classes and participate in recruiting events, Beta, etc. My grad program is a lot of papers and presentations, very different than undergrad. I'm lucky I don't have to work during my Master's so it's very doable for me. I think the best time to take the CPA Exam is while you are in school.I know a few of my classmates whom passed parts of the exam while taking classes and working part time. However, I do have to sacrifice time to study instead of spending the summer with my family, considering that once I start working I will have less time with them.
Mi ChanParticipant@Nat I had the exact same experience as yours when I took it on 6/4! The first testlet was so computational, I had a very long calculation question popped out when the exam loaded. Couldn't tell if the second testlet was harder but still had a lot of calculations and IT. I really am not sure how I did cause I don't remember all the questions and they covered everything.
Mi ChanParticipantMi ChanParticipantMi ChanParticipantMi ChanParticipantSat for BEC today. First testlet had a lot of computational questions, I can't tell if the second testlet was harder cause it had many calculations too. I feel like it basically covered all topics but there are definitely quite a few IT questions. I got a very long sim but it was manageable. The sims aren't that complicated but honestly idk how much I got right. The whole exam was harder than I expected, i spent a lot of time on the first two testlets cause too much calculations. This is also my first exam so I just hope I pass!
