I am not sure if this would count for the work experience requirement in IL, but it is a broad requirement. I did not work as an accountant but worked in financial analysis and budgeting areas. It was not an issue with getting licensed. In Illinois, your experience does not need to be signed off on by a CPA.

I used Roger CPA Review for my study materials. I did the trial for several review courses before making my decision. What ultimately lead me to choose Roger over the competitors is the lectures. I felt his high energy lectures were the most engaging. I felt I needed those lectures to pass the exam, because I felt they would keep me interested. I found the multiple choice questions to be adequate for studying as well. I did not use the books a great deal or did not do most of the TBS questions.

Using only Roger CPA Review I was able to pass all 4 exams on my first attempt. I would highly recommend Roger. Supplementing with the Ninja materials certainly couldn't hurt!

    Good luck in your studies!

Hi April, just to clarify. Unless it has changed in the last year or so you do not need to work under a licensed CPA to get experience, just in an accounting-related function. It is a pretty broad requirement. I was a financial analyst and my supervisor, who signed my application, was not a CPA. My experience was not questioned.

Hi Kk, Experience does not need to be under supervision or signed off on by a CPA and they do count experience before the exam.

Congrats @EMeRGeD. The Illinois Board of Examiners will send the scores to the IDFPR. Your next step would be to fill out an application on the IDFPR website and pay the $120 application fee. They say to wait two weeks before you start the IDFPR application to give the ILBOE time to send in the scores. I did not wait the two weeks and it was fine. Hope this helps.

Hi @Silas, First congrats on finishing the exam. Last year ILBOE got my ethics score on 12/21/2017 and I got my Certificate No. through email on 1/03/2018. Considering the holidays it didn't take to long. I applied through ILDFPR on 01/05/2018 and got my official License on 01/16/2018. Obviously times will vary, but that is how mine went.

If you took the course at a university in Illinois you might be able to find out by looking at the college templates on the ILBOE website. Otherwise, its hard telling. link below.

It took me two weeks to get my license number from IDFPR after I received my certificate number/letter from ILBOE and applied through IDFPR website. This was in January.

I passed REG on my first attempt using just Roger so it is definitely doable. That being said, if you think you need more questions/review materials than you should take advantage of the relatively low cost of the Ninja materials. Good luck!

The NTS is specific to the test or tests you signed up for. You pay the ILBOE exam fee for each exam you schedule. You can get discounts through ILBOE by signing up for more than one test at a time. When I did it I think the ILBOE fee was $40 per test or $76 if you singed up for two and so on. These ILBOE fees ore of course separate from the NASBA exam fees. If you signed up for two tests on the same NTS it would have two codes. You take them independently so failing one would have no bearing on the other one you registered for.

    I hope this helps!

I was lucky enough to take the week before or of my exams off. I got up and left the home like I was going to work, but instead went to a coffee shop and studied all day. I am not sure I would have been able to pass them all on the first try without the large time investment right before each exam.

I would second what @Recked said. I would try as many of the different programs through trials as you can. I trialed Roger, Gleim, Wiley, and Surgent. I ultimately went with Roger. I did not supplement it with anything else and it worked well for me.

To me its absurd to consider hanging your license on the wall as showing insecurity. I work in a private company there are a lot of CPA's in the building. Quite a few of which are no longer in accounting, but on the operational or even marketing side. There are a lot of licenses on display here. I guess what I am getting at is if you want to display it, do so. If not don't.
