@CPAisaWIP, if you are going for the exam, stay put for the meantime while studying. As you said, the only overtime is during Summer time a little bit. This will give you more time to prepare the exam without much stress from work. Nasty boss? Ignore him! Can you be sure the new boss is better? Maybe not. Grasses always look better on the other side of the fence. If you jump ship right now to a much smaller company, you might have to work a lot more hours and under stress. Focus on your future goal and ignore the nasty boss.
Better Late Than Never!JodieParticipantDo not feel so down yourself, OnmywaytoCPA, no one ask you to stay on the new job forever. After the Pandemic fading away, you can start looking for another one in the future. but at least right now, you don't have to risk being in the office, being outside with lots of people. and you save on transportation cost by working from home.
Better Late Than Never!JodieParticipantJeff, as long as you don't sell yourself to anyone else, that's fine. You are the only one allow us to cry all over your shoulders and get back up! No one else have a heart to let us complaint, encourage and chase our dreams again. We love you!
Better Late Than Never!JodieParticipantWhatever it will be, please keep this forum going. This is our sanctuary! We need this forum to relax, refresh, and reflex.
Better Late Than Never!JodieParticipantIt's better off overstudy than understudy – unless you have a crystal ball to foresee the amount of study will guarantee you a score of exactly 75. Isn't it better to overstudy once and score high, than have to study many times when you get a 74?
Better Late Than Never!JodieParticipantThank you all for such valuable information. I will definitely start over from the beginning. Deep down, I know I can do it. It's just a matter of overcome my own fear and “excuses”.
Better Late Than Never!JodieParticipantI totally agree with 74phoenix, if anyone who doesn't want to encourage us here, please leave us alone, no need to put us down further. Some people are smarter than others in absorbing materials, it's the fact. people like me are slower. We might have to read a page 10x in order to understand. So what? but we need some fighting spirit and encouragement to continue the battle. Yes, half the brain or 1/4 the brain, doesn't matter as long as we have support around us to fight this exam. That's why we are here, to support each other.
Better Late Than Never!JodieParticipantI totally agree with you all. I am an accountant as well as EA. I have my own small tax practice on aside. but every time when new clients come in or other people just met, they all asked this common question: ” You are accountant, how come you are not CPA? What is EA?”
Yes, this annoys me a great deal! Being an accountant, being an EA, having my own tax business, I should be very proud of myself. No, I am not a CPA! I cannot buy a CPA practice although it's 90% taxes – because I am not a CPA. Clients want a CPA signature, not an EA. This is reality.
So, I decide to come back for it. I know I can do it, maybe it take more time, I will be a CPA eventually and I will be truly proud of myself.Better Late Than Never!JodieParticipantThank you both! Both of your advice is priceless.
I work in accounting area full time and am an Enrolled Agent for my tax business. My final dream is, be a CPA and work for myself, no more listening to bosses. Oh yes, I am not young anymore, ready to retire soon! but with my own business, I can work until I die.
So, I would start with REG as my first exam section. I have been on and off going back to school to finally finish my MBA in Management a few years ago. So, yes Tncincy, I do know how difficult it is to study again. But CPA exam is much harder and no guarantee success. I am using Gleim premium – access until pass! By reading the forum, seems many people also use Ninja as additional supplement. I might do that too during last few weeks of study. My weakest area are research questions which no clue how it works. No matter what outcome will be, this time I determine to try my best. If I try and fail (of course after several times), no regret.
Better Late Than Never!JodieParticipant@Silent, you don't belong to this forum at all! How could you discourage people like that?! Shame on you!
I am not familiar with requirement in California. but in NY/NJ, as long as you work under the supervision of a CPA for a year or more, you will satisfy the 1 year experience requirement.
Age is not an issue, attitude is.Better Late Than Never!JodieParticipantMe too, I am over 50+ and being a CPA used to be my dream. Unfortunately, with all family responsibilities in life, never able to study for it. Now, I am free (almost free), I think I should put this one on my bucket list. Thank you everyone for the encouragement.
Better Late Than Never!JodieParticipantI would like to know if I am going to take the REG as early as beginning of Jan 2019, will I subject to be test under the new tax laws?
Thanks.Better Late Than Never!JodieParticipant -
