I am not an accountant, but I passed four in a row after one initial failure. I felt calm and pretty confident for the most part while taking the exams. My grades weren't great, but if a very non-professional can comfortably pass I would have to agree they are overhyped.

When reviewing I would work ten questions at time and aim for 100% correct, put things in my own words and do every TBS problem I could find. I am not an accountant but I really think people need to focus more on passing rather then saving time. Worked for me, passed four in row by being sure I really knew the material instead of looking for the easier route

It's also important to put concepts into your own words, my mantra was discuss, describe and do, then I knew I was ready. I think it is very reasonable to take two exams in one quarter but really at the very beginning and end of the quarter.

Sometimes people don't do them because they are longer and different then the exam but they are 50% of the exam and can be crucial to practice of its what you need. Remember when retaking that the exams aren't always the same so you have to maintain your strengths as well as work on weaknesses

Anyway good luck in your quest.
