    Hi John Doe,
Are you still looking? What area are you in? I am looking for someone just like you – with drive and trying to make a career out of accounting. I hired a staff accountant last year fresh out of school – he wasn't dedicated to the job and was distracted by other things, and it was such a wasted opportunity. It's a small NFP with 3 people in Finance. An excellent opportunity to learn a lot from support docs through journal entries and bank recs. I am looking for someone who puts their job foremost, and, frankly, it is not a stressful job because I did it myself for 10 years and then became a CPA at the same time my boss was retiring so I was lucky and was offered that position. Now I can't seem to be able to replace myself. lol

Anyone knows anyone with either 1-2 years experience OR no experience at all but WITH strong work ethic, the desire to learn and progress in the accounting field …?

    Hi Dbul2,

I have not had that experience but we are currently looking for a staff accountant position at a not-for-profit in DC. It's probably not a great fit for you as you are probably a CPA by now (it's not a position that requires a CPA), but maybe NFP is something you could consider.

Hi Prachi, I saw your post about looking to work under a CPA, but you were looking for something in Baltimore. In any case, send an email to kemi69o at yahoo dot com and you'll get the information.

Spartans92, thanks for your response. We will capitalize it as an intangible asset (no amortization) unless our auditors think otherwise. It is an ancillary domain name (meaning when you click on it you will get redirected to our main website) so it's not really for generating sales or business use.

Good luck with FAR! I took it many times before passing finally and all I can say is practice, practice, practice. But you know that already. 🙂

Hi group! I have a question – FAR-related but really from the workplace. How do you account for the cost of a website domain you have purchased to own? Expense or capitalize and over how long of a period? Any ideas?

Turns out I didn't need any extra classes. My foreign education includes an Advanced Levels Certificate (A'Levels) and each A' Level course is equivalent to 8 undergrad credits. I had 3 A'Level courses so all this time I was sitting on a pile of credits and didn't even know until someone asked me about my A'Levels. smh.

I got it evaluated and now I am certified. All's well that ends well. 🙂

@ payaza2000: You can call and speak with someone. Sometimes they are unavailable but I have spoken to one or two staff members. Last week I spoke with Nicholas Tazza about the 4 credits I am missing. They are usually patient and can explain stuff to you if you need clarification. Otherwise I have found that they respond to emails within a day or two, from my experience.

Have you checked out this program? You might be able to take the accounting courses to meet the requirements depending on what your state will accept.

@ ipasscpa: Yes, thanks to Makiu's explanation I went through with my application and i think my license would have been issued except that I need 4 credits. lol. I am going to have my Advanced level results evaluated and each of the subjects is about 8 credits. I was sitting on a credit mine but didn't know it. My fault for not being more thorough.

Anyway, you only need the VA specific ethics exam if you passed the last exam in the previous year. Scroll up to the link Makiu posted to the VABOA explaining the requirements. That tells you all you need to know about the ethics exam requirement.

@ hokinizeu: I hope you passed the ethics exam with a 90+ when you tried it again? I spent about 4 hours when I took it and passed with a 97. I went from question to study materials instead of the other way round – that is, read the question then find the answer. I wasn't going to read the whole thing!
