Why do you need to sync them on one platform? Is that IL requirement? In AK, we only have to submit cpe if we are being audited.

I was always curious, how do they know if you have passed the exam?

Can you complain to the board? Or send an anonymous letter to them describing everything in detail? Maybe he will be fired. But if not, at least it will feel good that his superiors know about his horrible attitude.

    Hello,
Very good questions. It’s confusing indeed. I was trying to read AK Cpa board regs to answer your questions at https://www.commerce.alaska.gov/web/portals/5/pub/CPARegulations.pdf

Do you have 150 university credits and 2 years of working under cpa? Looks like you will need this to get licensed. To sit for exams, it looks like you are correct that you can be non accounting major but have at least 15 credits in accounting courses. I’m just not sure if that is enough accounting credits to get licensed or they want a complete accounting degree. I would definitely write to the board to double check. And keep emailing them until you get your answer. Their responses can be short and confusing so keep asking until you get clear info. It’s always better to have their response in writing just in case:)

    Hello,

    1. I doubt they would want your application if it is incomplete (I.e. that you don’t have work experience yet). In their application instructions, they say to submit completed application or they may send you denial.
    2. I think if Nasba sends them something and they don’t have your application, they will hold it. But that’s my guess.
    3. I would wait until you got all your experience to send hours/work experience to the board. By the way, your past/current employer will have to fill form out themselves and send directly to the board. The board is very picky and won’t accept such documents from the candidate. Nasba sends them directly your grades; aicpa sends them directly your ethics score; and employer must send directly work experience document. At least that’s my understanding from my licensure almost a year ago.

Honestly, I would wait until you got all your documents/requirements met to fill out and to submit application. Also, if you need to talk to them, send email to boardofpublicaccountancy@alaska.gov

I emailed their coordinator before directly and she was not very good in responding timely. So then I started to email to this address and got response fairly quick.

Congratulations on being so close to become one of the elite Alaskan accountants :))

When I started studying for FAR, I did not remember anything accounting related. I remember I had to google what is accounting equation and that was my first formula in my notebook for FAR journey. I used Wiley Cpa excel. Sooo… software was so good that it taught me everything I needed to know! I spent hundreds and hundreds of hours studying through pain and tests and frustration. Reading, taking notes, googling and YouTubing if I needed more info, doing and redoing mcq until I got at least 90% on them. It took me 4 months total dedication before I sat for far. I got 71! That’s when I got pissed and started studying even harder. Re-read all chapters again, memorized all ratios, re-read all my old notes several times and still after second exam felt like I failed. So I decided that this is the test of dedication (and it is) and I will continue to study until I retire. But scores came and I got 78!!!!

My suggestion, dont get frustrated or discouraged. Go to library or somewhere quiet and just do one chapter at a time. Give all your energy and attention to that chapter. If you see hard questions, don’t focus too much on them. Just do your best guess and flag it so it pops up in your test bank again and just move on. Remember this is one of the hardest tests in human world. It really separates dedicated people from not dedicated. Cpa boards want the most dedicated coolest goal oriented people to be in their elite Cpa club. So keep going! If I was able to pass without even knowledge of an accounting equation, so can everyone! Just make sure you really want it those 3 beautiful letters next to your name CPA! 🙂 Thanks for reading.

I would say yes! Memorize them so you are absolutely proficient in them. I wrote out every formula/ratio when I was going over the material and at the end it was close to 100 of them on 3 double sided pages. So 1 week before test I started learning and memorizing maybe 10-15 a day. Like really memorizing. Next day I would repeat the old ones and learn new ones. I don’t know how people can pass test by lightly understanding ratios and formulas. Prepare yourself for this test like it’s a war:) it is really a tough test.

I would suggest focus on your exam. Forget about bad job experience. If Cpa has been your dream, you are days away from making it happen! After you pass, you will become super attractive to any company you decide to go to. If you are embarrassed to tell future employer about your bad experience at this job, can you not mention this job and just say you have been studying a lot to pass Cpa exams in the last 6 months? Don’t know if it’s a bad advise but it’s an option! Another option is to just explain like you explained here that you have been given project without proper training and it didn’t work out. Maybe don’t mention anything specific just general info?

I know how you feel. I’ve been booted out from a Cpa firm years ago after working there for 3 months. It has been haunting me for years. But after it I had a great position as a governmental auditor where I worked for many years and then passed my Cpa exams. So I’m glad everything happened the way it did. So just try to move on from this bad experience. I promise you will be ok! You will find a better job and you WILL be a highly desired cpa! Good luck to you 🙂

I was taking Reg forever without passing. Then lost motivation and took some time off. Then got bored and decided to start studying again. I decided to take easiest exam for me so I can pass and have motivation for the rest. So I passed audit with first try, then passed bec with first try, then reg (took only 1 time this round), and finally Far (took 2 times). I liked my approach because I was motivated the entire time by not wanting to lose any exams that I passed. I was studying like a mad woman (most of the time between 11 pm to 3 am). So I was 1 day from losing Audit and thank god passed far.

In summary, if you are full of motivation and not afraid to give up even if you fail, start with hardest exam. But if you are low on motivation, start with easy exam. However, keep in mind to hurry up because you may run out of time.

Don’t be discouraged. I took far twice and after second exam where I guessed on at least 3 sims and put random numbers in 1, I was ready to start studying again after score release. But I passed with 78!!! 1 day before I lost audit score. Sometimes “Cpa gods” just have mercy on you:) I really wish you good luck in passing.

Depends how many hours per day you can study. If you can do 8 hours per day, maybe you will be fine. Just take the exam in July and see how you do. It will be the end of second qtr right? So if you don’t pass, at least you will know how close you are and can do another 3 months of studying until the end of third qtr.

Yes! I agree with you. He is the professor I least liked. He is very mean and rude. I normally rarely read his mentoring. All other professors are wonderful and I read almost every question/response. I wonder when Wiley will have a talk with him to become nicer to students.

Don’t be discouraged. I don’t believe candidates need to have strong accounting skills before studying for Cpa. When I started studying for FAR I have been out of college maybe 6-7 years and had very few memories of accounting. I even had to google an accounting equation!!!:) but I studied religiously and went over every chapter a bunch of times and passed on my second try. Use YouTube and google if you need additional videos and materials.

72 is excellent for the first try!!! I studied 3.5 months daily like a mad lady and got 70! Got so pissed at the exam and channeled this anger towards studying again. Next day bought myself new notebook and a new box of pens. Made myself new plan. Went over every chapter again (slowly) maybe 3 small chapters a day and took exam again in 3 months. After exam I thought I failed and prepared to study again and again until I am an old lady. Scores come and I got 78!!! I honestly cried. My husband cried too seeing me crying from joy. 7 years of my life and now I am a Cpa!

I suggest you to make a new study plan. Do 1-2 chapters a day at least. Start slowly and your studying efforts will naturally increase with time. How to eat an elephant? One peace at a time. I heard somewhere also that to start studying, just open your laptop. If you do, most likely you will sit down and study. Good luck. Remember this is the test of determination.

I don’t think they have ethics practice exam. It must have been a real exam. When I completed mine 6 months ago, I had to call to aicpa for them to email me a certificate and also to email one to state board of accountancy directly. Our state board doesn’t accept anything from candidates. Documents have to come from external sources directly to them.
