January 22, 2019 at 6:00 pm in reply to: What part-time/work from home jobs could I do as a CPA? #2176849OTK1995Participant
The one thing I absolutely HATE about Upwork is the amount of educated people who lowball their services. You'll never make a profit or if you do, it's because it's no longer part-time, you're working yourself to death.

OTK1995ParticipantOh honey, look at my signature. I went at this originally in 2008, had all my stuff expire in 2010 and restarted again in 2016. It hurts but you can do this.

OTK1995ParticipantMy best jobs I obtained through recruiting agencies and they were small, local companies. I think I may have just been lucky but don't knock them. I now work at a subsidiary for a Fortune 10 company because of the recruiter I used.
I am not a fan of RH at all, I refuse to use them. I use another large firm to hire at my company now but I almost stopped using them because the previous staffing manager was a terrible communicator. The new division leader is awesome. I actually still have the firm who recruited me on speed dial and prefer to use them since they are local but they have not had the greatest candidate pool as of late, unfortunately.

OTK1995ParticipantI just have to say that Tennessee has a really lovely wall certificate. First I received my license and I was like, “that's it?” and two months later this beautiful certificate showed up. If I can figure out how to post photos I would share what each of them looks like.

OTK1995ParticipantLMFAO… if it's a great job, I could leave for 15%. No amount of money will make me leave a job if the company offering is crap.

October 30, 2018 at 3:00 pm in reply to: New mom, Big 4 vs corporate, offer, first year associate and mom #2040386OTK1995ParticipantIf her husband gives her the support she needs in order to work in Big 4 while raising her little one, then a few seasons in Big 4 will be okay. My ex was horrid during my time in public accounting and I am very lucky my parents stepped up to help. I honestly think that Big 4 is something you can't pass up because long term it means financial and career success for you thus your child, and you cannot overlook that.
Good luck OP. I am sure you got this. whichever way you go.B - 75 (exp 9/2010) , 76 (11/2016)A - 69, 89 (exp 9/2010), 73, 83 (3/2018)

OTK1995ParticipantYou didn't mention Ninja but I highly recommend them based on my experience. If my company had not paid for Becker, I definitely would have chose Ninja for all four sections (I used it for Reg). You can tell that Jeff and his team work on the Ninja system constantly plus there is always someone available to help you when you have a question. I can't recommend it enough.

OTK1995ParticipantIs there any way you can transition to a staff/senior accountant role at your current job? If not, your experience and license should be able to move you to one at another company. I would only move back into public if I truly enjoyed it.

OTK1995ParticipantI had 159 credits (changed majors, minored) and no masters, passed the CPA after several tries and 11 years after getting my undergrad degree. You just need to get your studying down to where you understand what is being taught to you and retain it for your exams. You didn't say how many times you took it but if you cannot afford to renew your Rogers or Becker, perhaps look into Ninja monthly subscription.
If my fossilized self can do it, so can you! Good luck!

OTK1995ParticipantI studied REG using just Ninja alone just recently to pass it again. The first time I took it was with Becker and I passed with that too. IT did take me about two months of studying: 3 hours a day during the week (except Wednesdays) and 8 hours each Saturday and Sunday. You can pass but you absolutely need to put the hours in. I also did every SIM at least once and MCQ until my eyes bled. Have you looked at the AICPA sample test? It gives you an idea of what the format is like.

OTK1995ParticipantYou do whatever floats your boat. At t his point, any certification or additional education I get are for my personal enrichment. I specifically will not be doing an MBA or a CMA. I'll probably get a SPHR certification next but that's just me since I also get involved with a lot of HR related functions at work. Maybe a finance cert as well. Definitely a lot cheaper than that MBA.

OTK1995ParticipantJust find the time. You may have to sacrifice some sleep, play dates, extracurriculars. Funny thing is that sometimes your kids will entertain themselves. You may have to order out, feed yourself cereal, use online grocery shopping.
I finally finished mine and this is with a 16 year old, a 5 year old special needs child and being the controller for a subsidiary of a Fortune 10 company. To get through Financial and Reg, I gave up my week nights and weekends. The house was a mess. My husband honestly wasn't much help and work really had nothing to do with it. My main issue was that I had to force myself to focus on this and not get distracted during my study time. You have to be dedicated to shutting out the noise.
