Becoming a CPA opened the door for me at my new job. It doesn't require it, but passing impressed the hell out of my employer. It shows that you are dedicated, resourceful, determined, etc. All of these qualities are important for any job in any field.

When I feel stupid at work, I think, “If I can pass the CPA exam, I can figure this out.”

Passing has increased my self confidence in spades. Even if it doesn't pay off “financially”, the confidence it gave me is worth its weight in gold.

FAR was actually my last section. I knew it would be my most difficult section (and it was) so my hope was that after I tackled the first 3 sections, I would have knowledge to carry over to FAR (and I did).

Everyone is different. But going from easiest section to hardest section worked for me.

I used Becker. Because BEC has so many different topics, it's easy to jump ahead in the book. I started with the chapter on economics to build confidence. Once I was comfortable with the material, I moved onto IT and so forth. I didn't feel it was necessary to begin with chapter one.

I actually focused on the first 3 chapters last. Cost accounting can be difficult. I didn't understand it at first, but the more I practiced, the better I became.

Keep at it. You CAN do it.

You don't have to know everything, but you need to have a good understanding of most key topics. Who knows what you will get on exam day? You need to be prepared for everything.

For example, my first FAR exam had 2-3 IFRS questions. My retake had TONS. Every exam focuses on different areas.

Know govt and nfp very well. Those topics are ESSENTIAL!!

You cannot pass these exams without intelligence. All of the hard work in the world will not enable an “‘average joe” to become a CPA.

It is a discredit to the professional to say that anyone can pass these exams. Clearly they cannot. Especially those that take these exams 10+ times.

FAR was the hardest hands down. So many topics… I studied the most for that section. I am soooo glad to be done. I hardly slept while I studied for FAR. My nerves were shot, especially since it was my last section to pass.

I didn't think REG was all that bad. It was tough, but I enjoyed learning about corporate tax. I had never studied it before.

I felt like that at first too. I finished my final exam last November. Sitting here today, it feels soooooo good to be done. Now I've been able to enjoy time with my kids and my boyfriend. I just got a new job so I'll be focusing on that. Plus I'm going to start working on CPE's by this weekend.

It takes a little time to adjust. But being done is the best feeling in the world…..

There was a quote on here recently that I like:

I am with mla1169 110%. I was dating my boyfriend during my last 2 exams and it worked out. I only saw him a couple of times per week but he was very understanding and knew that my schedule wouldn't last forever.

Now, I see him almost daily and we are closer than ever. But if he wasn't understanding of my committment to studying, then it wouldn't have worked.

I don't believe in all nighters. Never did one in my life. Ever. Just kept with a reasonable study schedule. I need sleep in order to function. I'm too old also!!! Lol.

In my state, if you didn't work directly for a CPA, you can have your supervisor sign off on your work experience. THEN, you can fill out an additional form and have any CPA that knows you sign off on it. Could be a friend, etc.
