I spent most of my time at the local community college learning spanish online. I did take a single advanced business law class at my alma matter.

In most states, credits are credits, and now is a great time to take some classes because you enjoy it, not because you “have to”…although you do “have to” 🙁

    Turn into mustachians!!!

80k/year is plenty of money to live happy fulfilling lives! Mr money mustache, can help put a bit of perspective on your current predicament. Hope you like some of his posts, and find out more at those forums.

Sorry if it sounds like a cult, it kind of is…frugality for all, all while living like kings.

Long story short, enjoy some time with the kid…if you wife's job disappears, you have the credentials to immediately head back, and you wouldn't miss much of a thing while she enjoys her time.

5 years definitely? But have a plan to get there, and be proactive.

It also depends on where you live though too…

I went on a massive depression “bender” in December after failing FAR/AUD for the first time, and making a showing at Thanksgiving to eat and leave to study another 6-8 hours.

I was so miserable I couldn't stand it! My great boss told me a few stories, for what it's worth, I think only entrepreneurs have a clue of the amount of work we are putting in, and even then I think do more 🙂

He said life had gotten the best of him several times over the years (he is 72) and it took several attempts before he had a successful go of a business. Most importantly though was keeping your chin up, and gloves up because we're in the ring with Life, and Life is a real SOB that wants to beat the snot out of you. That pity party we throw ourselves usually happens after getting a good knock on the chin, Life doesn't let up at that point, and neither can you! Life keeps punching, kicking and attempting to take a crap all over you. We have to get up and start throwing our own punches right back!

Since that little motivation, I still failed FAR once, and despite the minor “annoyance” of not being done before the baby was born by 1 $%^ing point, I never let that get me down, I just chugged right along and kicked the crap out of BEC. Today, with 12 days to go, I am so confident in my FAR abilities that there is no chance of failing. AND EVEN IF I DID FAIL! I would reschedule 48 hours later and go restart from scratch, and wreck it's day in October.

For what it's worth, I've never had this level of confidence going into an exam, and I've still managed to pass 3, but it makes me that more excited about Aug 23.

Keep your gloves up, and go wrestle Life down to the ground until he quits breathing.

read a bit of info on the mrmoneymustache forums. Lots of folks are doing this over there without any problems. If you are sharp and have the resume to back it up, you won't have problems moving forward. You will never regret spending time with the kids, they grow up, and jobs tend to stick around.

This will be one of the best decisions of your life.

Your verbiage sounds like that of an opiate user, scary stuff. You must be pretty sharp and determined to have passed the test and get your life back in order.

I know you can do this, good luck. Its also possible you could apply in a neighbor state, Georgia or Alabama perhaps?

    They are fighting for us!

The problem is they are likely fighting for things I don't agree with. Like keeping the tax code insane.

Simplifying the tax code would be great for everyone. CPA's might be “hard hit” for a year or 2, but we are all very smart resourceful people that will figure out how to keep charging ahead.

    My boss once told me:

“You have to keep your gloves up, because life is always looking for ways to kick the sh*t out of you, and life isn't afraid to kick you over and over while you're down and sh*t on you”

It was a good motivational speech after failing FAR/AUD last december, but it applies today, Start fast and finish strong!
