WOW – so annoying and time consuming!! Yeah, I just called NY and they said only the last employer, which is good!

Every employer has to fill something out? Or just enough employers to meet the requirements? I'm in NY if that matters.

taigpegg – try taking one exam at a time. Taking 2 exams back to back might be too much material, especially since one of those tests was FAR.

Master the CPA exam – similar concept. You seem to have all 4 exams within a few months. You didn't leave much room for a retake. Try and slow down and take 1 test at a time. It's not a marathon. Give each test its respectful time.

I am a NY candidate and took all 4 tests in NJ. It's perfectly fine.

I agree with taxgeek83 – working in tax can sometimes be a disadvantage because you don't always read the question fully through. I cannot even count how many times I got a question wrong because I didn't read words like ‘not' or ‘except'. Slow down, read the question and you will be fine.

It seems that the thing that is causing you the most stress is the one thing you keep pushing back – taking this exam. Why are you waiting until Q4 to sit for your first exam? You can start studying now and get in any of the parts in Q3 and then another part in Q4.

Which part do you want to take first? Do you have any experience professionally that correlate to any of the exams (Tax, Audit)? A lot of people start with FAR to get the beast out of the way but since motivation seems to be your biggest challenge, you may want to start with a part that you are most familiar with. This can also increase you chances of passing, build up your confidence and motivation while starting the 18 month clock.

The best thing to do, in my opinion, is (and do this only if you are TRULY ready to start making sacrifices) schedule an exam and sit for it in Q3. Life will always get in the way. You have to make time for things that are important to you. If passing the CPA exam is important, you will find time.

Which study materials are you using? Since you are not working, can you commit 5 hours a day M-F to studying and then a few more hours during the weekend? If yes, then you can definitely sit and pass a part in Q3.

The hardest part is getting started. Once you schedule an exam date, and DO NOT reschedule it (unless of course there is an emergency) you will be motivated to study and pass.

I agree that a break between exams is definitely important and almost completely necessary. I usually took a week off from studying as well in between exams just to reset my brain, see my friends, eat dinner outside of my house and spend some time with the hubby. It's important to keep a balance otherwise you won't want to continue on.

Also, I always took 1 day off a week with NO studying at all. For me, this was Friday. I would go to the movies, dinner, SLEEP, whatever I wanted! It makes Mon-Thurs of studying not so hard because you know there is a day you have off.

I had the hardest time with my last exam. You would think it would be so motivating to know you only have 1 left – OPPOSITE was true for me!! I was completely done and didn't want to look at any study stuff. And to make it worse, it was FAR. It was like an uphill battle. As a result, I failed FAR and lost reg. You don't want that to happen to you! Push through this =)

Direct vs indirect methods for cash flow was hard for me. I spend days trying to master those. And governmental was awful, too. FAR is general was no walk in the park.

Do not sit for the FAR exam without knowing IFRS. As nbad311 said, the ninja notes do a great job of detailing out what can be tested. Definitely know that information before walking into the exam.

You will start to pass soon enough! Never give up and you WILL become a CPA!

What works for me is doing a ton of progress tests while studying. For example, for regulation, if I was on chapter 5, I would still do progress tests on 1-4 to keep that material somewhat fresh. I agree with taking a day off before the exam from work! This helps clear your mind and stay focused. The day before the exam I usually read my notes or jeffs ninja notes and do maybe 30 questions. I also make sure I get 8 hours of sleep. On my way to the exam I drive in silence. No music for sure bc I am the kind of person who won't be able to get a song out of my head lol. By test day I have listened to jeff on the audio more times than I can count so I don't think it's necessary to listen to it again. I just try and relax and stay focused.

It might be helpful to stick with one exam until you pass it. This way the info stays fresh and you can get the confidence from passing an exam.
