So this is my 3rd FAR retake since October 2013. Despite reviewing Flashcards, listening to Ninja Audio, & doing Ninja MCQ’s I can’t seem to get my trending and average trending score past 60%. I’ve spent the last hour reviewing the forum to see how many people have passed the exam with similar scores to mine. I have found it has been done, ppl have passed the actual exam with lousy practice scores.

Mentally I’m having trouble staying in the fight as this seems like another fail, waste of two months of my time and $200 of my dollars to fail by a few effn points. I’ve scored 60, 70, and 67 and cant seem to get over the hump. I just want to scream!

Trying to stay positive this last week b/c I realize my attitude is the only thing I control but Im having a mountain of difficulty.Im just so sick of studying for this GD test!!!

Every single day after the first 9 months of studying. The longer it takes me, the dumber I feel.

Wanna_B_TXCPA2014, after seen your FAR scores and your ninja trending and average, I suggest you change your review course. Do not try to memorize FAR, you will fail again and again. Are you using becker? I think Roger has better explanations on the FAR section.

DoOver, what is your average on Ninja Audit>? I also failed Audit with a 72, and Im waiting to my retake scores now.

@Martin I have exclusively used Ninja for this attempt and used Wiley for the others. I am starting to think that I am not a self study kind of guy. Depending on how score on this attempt, a Becker live review course is in my future. I starting to think that I do not have what it takes to successfully prepare myself for this exam and its making me so ANGRY! With both self study courses I average in the 60-70s and then test day comes. So I dont know. I think I am about call it day for studying get some alcohol and try again tomorrow. All I can do is all I can do. Which seems like spend more of my time and money trying to pass this stupid ass test.

@Wanna_B_TXCPA2014 you need a teaching course. I used Yaegar for FAR and I liked it. The lectures may be long, but trust me they are very effective. One of the instructors, Cindy is my favorite. Nonetheless, I suggest that you take your time actually understanding the information. Go module by module — watch the lectures, read through the chapter, do the assigned problems, making note of anything you didn't grasp right away or got wrong.

I did all the problems in the Wiley book, most of those in the testbank and all of the ones on cpareviewforfree.com. I think it doesn't hurt to suppplement your main review course.

We all learn differently. I've read on this site plenty of times about people pressing doing multiple choice questions out right before actually learning the material. I disagree with that approach, you need a foundation to work the problems, otherwise you will find yourself spending hours trying to solve a few problems.

You can do this! I have found a way that works for me, you should do the same.

    Good Luck!

    A - 2/2/15 - 76: PASSED
    B - 7/20/15 - 74, 73
    R - 7/24/15 - patiently waiting for 8/25 score release
    F - sometime in October

60,70,67 these scores mean that you need better explanations for FAR. See if you can get Roger on ebay. He goes over JEs with many of his explanations. I think he is great for both Audit and FAR, but not as good for the other 2.

@Wanna_B_TXCPA2014, I feel identical to you right now! (except I'm a Pats fan :P). Anyway, this is my third attempt (too embarrassed about first attempt to post).

I got a 69 the last time and my score report shows Comparable in Framework & Standards and Specific Transactions & Events / Weaker in Financial Statement Accounts & NFP / Stronger in Governmental.

The SIMS show weaker as well as the MCQ so I must have really bombed the SIMS and NFP to be at a 69 while showing a decent amount of comparable and stronger.

The pressure is on for my exam Friday. Everyone at work knows I took the whole week off this week to study. My wife and I are expecting our first child in November and my REG credit expires in October. Must pass FAR on Friday and then AUD over the summer.

    Good luck!

The thing I hate is, when you are at attempt #3, 4, or 5 (#5 for REG in my case), you start to second guess everything! Questions that I probably answered correctly without thought last year are now *#&@*@ with me…

    AUD - 75
    BEC - 75
    FAR - 76
    REG - 76
I want those initials next to my name!!!!

    FAR - 76
    AUD - 75
    BEC - 75
    REG - 76

Now I need some experience!!! And some networking...

Hey DUNKIN, I feel you on the work thing. It sucks having all those people know your taking a test and then having to look them in the eye and tell them you failed. I really hope I don't have to do that again. I wasn't planning on taking any time off this week ,but I might now that I think about it. I just hate the idea of wasting PTO to study.

I'm right there with you all. I am fed up with how much time I am taking to get this done. Finally through all the questions in ninja 1 time and im like HUH?! I feel like I am overwhelmed but I seem to recall some of the stuff.

BEC - TOO MANY FAILS TO LIST! July 2015 I WILL GET IT!
AUD - AUG 2015- NEVER PASSED!
    FAR - LOST CREDIT
    REG - PASSED

Thanks for the feedback everyone! I think I just needed to vent my frustration to people who understand.

@Dunkin I feel you on the family thing. Ive been trying to get this CPA thing done since my son who is now 4 was 10 months. 21 additional hrs of accounting/business courses. Then fail after fail with damn exam. My fingers are crossed that you pass this before the birth of your 1st child b/c life will be even more miserable to study with a family. I have 2 kids.

@lastchance you're so right about the 2nd guessing. I am not as bad as a was last time but its still not good.

@martin I said Wiley but I meant Yeager. Wasnt a fan of the videos as they seemed to go on. I think Cindy was the one I seemed to like the most, unfortunately she didnt narrate all sections

@IIcannotgiveup in 4 attempts I've tried everything I can think of. I simply can not recall the material when needed on test day. I have all the Ninja materials to supplement flashcards, audio, notes. IDK. Maybe “they” let me pass this time. We'll see.

@Wanna_B_TXCPA2014 have you tried checking out Roger? They now have a full access free trial to the entire course. May be worth checking out for FAR. I highly recommend Roger for FAR since it's a teaching course, not boring and works out J/Es and t-accounts which is what you need to nail down the FAR topics. Use Roger MCQs once but then hit the NINJA MCQs. What are your weak areas? Mine were Non-monetary exchanges, bonds, S/E, government, etc….I took about an hour or more on each of these to really focus on what I didn't understand and write out notes, charts, etc. to make sense of it all and then did MCQs to apply what I learned. It was hard and frustrating but that is what helped me get the pass that I needed on the second try. Unfortunately working MCQs to death isn't enough in some cases…you really have to take the time to understand how it all works using J/Es, t-accounts, etc.

    FAR - (11/01/14) 71 (02/07/15) 79
    AUD - (04/30/15) 86
    BEC - (07/21/15) 73 (10/01/15) 75
    REG - (11/30/15) 55 (05/19/16) 74
