Education requirement frustration

Virginia along with many other states makes you have a Bachelors degree to sit, its frustrating for me because I have completed all the requirements for my BBA in Accounting but have 3 classes left in my BBA Marketing. I have 141 credits as I type, but still can’t sit. One of my friends informed in that in the state of SC there is no minimum requirement and I should sit there for a test or two this summer to get them out of the way. What do you think?

I live in SC and you have to have 120 hours with a certain number of accounting and a certain number of business hours to sit. Check out the SCLLR website for more information. I cannot answer your question about whether or not you should go to another state to sit if you are qualified in that state. Hopefully someone else will chime in.

    FAR- 85 I'm DONE!
    BEC- 75
    REG- 60,60,75
    AUD- 74,74,83

CPAExcel used for BEC, AUD, REG
Exam Matrix used for FAR plus NINJA Blitz, cpareviewforfree and a little CPAExcel

Oh and I think they should make exams available for people while they're in college so they can start knocking them out ahead of time…

Wait, no I don't, I'm licensed, so bring on the higher barriers to entry! Think they should require a Ph.D to sit for the exam! 😉

Florida requires 150 to sit with 36 semester hours of upper level accounting and 24 hours of upper level business to be licensed. With a B.S. in Business and an MBA I still had to go back to school to take 8 upper level accounting classes just to be eligible to sit and I have to take 4 more classes when I'm done with the exam just to be licensed. Florida also has a 1 year work requirement under a licensed CPA and your exam credits expire if you don't get licensed in 3 years. Every state has it's issues. If I were you I would just take the extra classes and get licensed in your state. At least following the Florida requirements means I can pretty much get reciprocity in any other state because Florida is one of the strictest to be licensed in.

I'm also selfish like acamp:P I am happy that California increased the educational standards, so hopefully less people will go the CPA route, and instead get jobs in low value industries like marketing lol. Just kidding KFC:P

I spoke to an ancient wise man who sent me on a mushroom induced journey through an ancient forest to find the key to passing the CPA exam. A talking spider monkey told me to throw the last of my drinking water in the dirt to find what I was looking for. So I followed his instructions and the following message appeared in the soil:

"Do 5000 multiple choice questions for each section"

I am in the analytical side of the marketing major… I've learned how to use SPSS, SAP, and other data mining software and surprisingly I am now certified expert in microsoft excel. Those are all resume boosters when I was only doing marketing to get to 150.

I emailed the VA State board of Accountancy, they told me that in fact yes I can take the tests in SC this summer and transfer the scores. I was surprised they responded so quickly.

    Thanks for everyones input.

KLC I was just teasing about the marketing degree. Marketing is very interesting and it might end up helping you if your a partner some day. Bring in those clients.
