So I have been reading most everyone’s post about FAR since I started studying for it back in February. I see that some topics are tested more than others and those are the ones that I struggle the most with (Bonds, Leases, EPS, IFRS, etc). If I focus on these heavily tested topics including Gov’t/NFP, Accounting Changes, SCF, etc. would you think I would be somewhat prepared for the exam coming up? I am going through the AICPA Released Questions as well as this covers all topics, so I am reviewing other things as well.

I know anything can be thrown at you on the exam.

    Any advice would be great!

    FAR - 46, 79 (7/8/14)
    AUD - 56, 59, 2/23/15 3rd times a charm!
    BEC - 69, 74 Really??
REG - April, I hope. Fingers crossed!

Sounds like you have the right idea. But I won't get specific 🙂

@Tarheelgirl If you don't mind me asking. Which topics have you found out are tested more than others from your time at this board? I have am taking FAR too and that would be great to know.

    thanks

    FAR:TBD
    REG:TBD
    AUD:TBD
    BEC:TBD

I am using Becker self study, ninja blitz and Wiley (I am using the paperback version of the testbank)

    Brief overview of study method:
    1. Skim through chapter quickly
    2. Watch lecture videos
    3. Take a lot of notes on what the lecturers emphasize
    4. Complete half HW after lectures half after rewriting notes

Absolutely what CPAMommyof3 said… I made sure to know government (and NFP to a lesser extent) well, and it is definitely worth it.

@cpanovice I have seen multiple times on the forum people would ask what are 3 or so things to really and truely know for the FAR exam and the ones I listed are what they said is most heavily tested on. You could look back through some of the posts and find one I am sure. Also in my review system of Gleim, those topics are the ones with the most questions.

IFRS confuses me, remembering the separate rules throws me off. Of course I know the basics, no LIFO, no Completed Contract, but I know it will be more specific than that. Gov't/NFP I actually did not have trouble with in my review. But I will make sure I do a lot of MCQs to get it down good.

@CPAmommy I think you said before you went through some of the AICPA released questions. How helpful were those for preparing for the exam?

It always helps to look at those AICPA questions. I posted in another thread a link to them. Go take a look! There were 50 for FAR this year, if I'm not mistaken.

I concur on the AICPA released questions. if you want to see exactly how the exam questions are, give them a look:

That is just 2013, there are several year's worth of questions that Becker has provided free explanations for. The 2013 version is especially helpful because it tells you which ones are the “hard” questions. These are the upper limit for how hard MCQ gets on the exam.

If you use Becker you'll notice some of these questions are also in Becker's test bank, but most aren't.

I'm starting my review in 2 weeks and I plan to go thru and write down every single JE, all of the mnemonics, and all of the IFRS vs. GAAP differences. I also started a FAR cheat sheet this last weekend and I basically spend a hour each day, going through a few sections and writing down the key items to remember/that I have a hard time with. Might be a beneficial thing to do during your review.

AUD: PASSED [81]; Expired, retaking August 23rd
BEC: PASSED [83]; Expired, retaking July 11th
    REG: PASSED [83]
FAR: FAILED [64]; Retaking May 23rd
