    Hello all!

I am a native Houstonian; I moved near Galveston for work as an Accountant in the Hospitality industry.

I am looking to move back to Houston and am dying to work in either O&G or a Big 4.

Can anyone provide advice on how to land a job when I don’t have direct experience?

    Where/how do I make contacts?

You could start by compiling a list of some oil and gas companies in places like downtown and the energy corridor. From what I've gathered at work recently, it is tough to get a big 4 job here if you didn't get an internship at the right time and everything lined up for you. I'd say your best bet is a mid-sized oil and gas company. Good luck

I suggested LinkedIn and find the local chapter of COPAS. I am rather new to LinkedIn, but was surprised at how many jobs are posted on there. I know I asked a local headhunter if they placed people at the company I wanted to work at, and they did, that's how i got into the industry and company I wanted to work at.

Lola – I am in Houston and work in O&G. It has been a few years since I have been in public, so I am not sure how hard it would be to get in, but they are always hiring so you may have a shot. I was at a mid sized regional firm and then had no trouble moving into an industry position a few years later. I would start by updating your LinkedIn profile and getting in contact with some accounting recruiters, there are some really good ones in the area. Good luck!

My O&G employer is looking for Accountants. They prefer bilingual in Spanish or Portuguese but I can double check. They only require general acct. exp.

Here is a link so you can check it out. If you're interested, give me your email and I'll send you more details. I will register you at a different site so I can get my referral bonus should you be hired (and stay for at least 3 months).
