Did anyone get a raise while working in Industry for obtaining your CPA License? Would you expect a raise and how much? My companies annual raises will be this summer and I will hopefully have my license by then. I want to ask for an additional % for the CPA. What is the norm and how do I bring it up?

I work in industry and replied on the other thread. As far as specific % – on the RHI Salary Survey I think it said to add 5-10% to the salary if there was an additional license or advanced degree. I asked for 10 -13% in October and they are saying once I'm licensed they will give me a raise and promotion and implied it will be worth while. I'm sure it is going to vary by company. My COO is not a CPA, not even an accountant and he thinks that me being a CPA is going to look good. I guess? He keeps introducing me as “future CPA.” No pressure.

    FAR - 7/13 - 72, 11/13- 74, 2/14- 82!!! Best score ever (for me)!!!
BEC - 1/14 - 75!!! Perfect score! First Pass! YAY!!!
    AUD - 8/14 - 80!!!
    REG - 5/14 - 72, 10/14 - 66, 1/15 - 78 - DONE FOREVER!!!
I did 5 of the UNA and CPAExcel classes to earn units.

I'm in industry and I was promised a raise and title change from Accounting Manager to Assistant Controller, with the expectation of replacing the Controller if she left or got promoted, when I get licensed. We did not discuss how much of a raise, but they asked me to become the Accounting Manager and asked me to get my CPA so they know the raise better be substantial or I'll take the CPA to another company. You should do job searches in your industry for CPAs to see what the going rate is. That could definitely help figure out how underpaid you would be if you stayed at your current employer.

They know I'm currently taking the exams, but raises haven't been mentioned. Should I bring it up now or wait until after I pass the last exam or during the annual review?

It depends on who you work for in private. After graduating with an MBA working in private, I went to HR requesting a pay increase, and they told me you only receive an increase for a BA. Needless to say, it took me 1 week to find a new job in public making 50% more with an additional 15% raise after 18 months. I would say have the discussion with HR when you get the license. You should receive a raise for the CPA designation, and a raise based on yearly performance.

    CPA EXAM: DONE!!!!
    Ethics Course: Passed
    Application Mailed: 3/16/15
    Professional Conduct Exam: 97
    Certification Date: 4/2/15!!!
