Quick question does one need a CPA of the same state to sign off his/her work experience for the CPA license. For example should a CA candidate get a CA CPA to sign off his/her work experience or any CPA from another state can do just that. Also do one need an in state work experience to get the CPA license of that state?

I'm not certain, but I definitely hope that's not true! All of my experience is in GA, but as soon as my husband graduates we'll be moving back home to PA, which is where I planned on opening my own office. I'm guessing we'd get that information from state boards as opposed to NASBA/AICPA?

i would imagine it doesnt matter. say you live in PA and commute to NJ or NY. As long as the CPA signing off on your experience is in good standing, it shouldnt matter where you got the experience or where that CPA is licensed.

    FAR - 1/26/2012 - PASSED (78, but Lost credit), re-do 11/27/2013 - PASSED (87)!
    AUD - EPIC FAIL, 71, 69; 68; 5/25/2013 - PASSED (85)!
    REG - 10/1/2012 - 72; 7/1/2013 - 73 UGH, 10/1/2013 - PASSED (85)!
    BEC - 2/28/2013 - PASSED (82)!
    Licensed CPA!

Used Becker self-study materials (just this for FAR original & REG #1), WileyTestBank, NINJA notes/audio, and Roger cram course for AUD #5, REG #3 & FAR reboot. CPA!

You need to contact your state board. Most licensing issues vary state to state and I know of many states that allow an out of state CPA to sign experience but don't take that to mean your state will, until you get it directly from them.

    FAR- 77
    AUD -49, 71, 84
    REG -56,75!
    BEC -75

Massachusetts CPA (non reporting) since 3/12.

    For California:

Public accounting CPA signer can be licensed in any state or country.

Private or Government CPA signer must be licensed in US Territory.

    Pg 19

If experience is obtained outside of California, written verification is required from the out-of-state licensing body with which the supervisor holds a valid active license to practice public

accountancy. The CBA will send you a verification form that must be mailed to the out-of-state

licensing body issuing the supervisor’s CPA license. An official seal of the out-of-state licensing

body issuing the license to the supervisor is required on the signed document. It is your

responsibility to provide the fees associated with the completion of the verification. A verification

for an out-of-state signer will not be sent until such time as an application for licensure is

    received by the CBA.
