A lot of borderline disclosing going on here

Now, I don’t imagine there is an AICPA SWAT team busting down doors or anything. But I would rather play it safe, you know? There’s nothing overly blatant going on, like asking about specific questions on the exam or anything like that. But there is a lot of disclosing of the topics people have seen on the exam, like somebody had 4 sims of governmental questions, etc. It might not seem like much but it’s still against the disclosure rules. Somebody hears that the FAR exam is testing heavily on governmental and, thus, they now have an advantage (for example).

Like I said, nothing is too blatant on here. But still, it’s starting to make me uncomfortable. I don’t want to be caught up in a AICPA tornado or anything. Paranoid? Maybe. But why even risk it? So, seriously, can we try to avoid disclosing anything about the exam? I’m thinking of getting off this site and I would really hate to do that. This is an awesome site. It really helps people. So let’s be more careful ok?

I agree – I have moderators on here that are trying to keep an eye on it.

You simply cannot disclose what topics you saw – what % of the exam covered what, etc.

You can say “wow that sucked” or “wow, my review course didn't prepare me for what I saw”…that's fine.

Saying that you saw XYZ or even a wink-wink nudge-nudge doesn't fly … please be careful.

You may get some grief from others, but I really appreciate what you're trying to do. A lot of people may not realize what the limitations are on what they are allowed to say because the nondiscolosure agreement doesn't go into a lot of detail. Maybe Jeff or one of the moderators could post more specific descriptions of what's not allowed.

Thanks kb24. I am thinking along the same lines as you. I thought it would be good to post something for the new people or the older ones who get carried away.

People would be pretty damn upset if they worked their asses off for however long it took them to pass the exams and then not be eligible to have their license because of disclosing stuff about the exam on a message board. This is good advice from the original poster. Just my two cents

I saw a post within a week of me taking one of my recent tests and I thought “Man, it sure would have been nice to known this before I took my test!”. In fact, that information could have really helped me! I felt like others taking the test after me had an advantage. Oh well, we shall see how I did without that information when scores come out in a few weeks.

Agreed. Since we all share in this pain together, of course we wish we had a heads up on what to expect, but it just isn't worth the risk!

People are wasting their time if they read that “blah” was heavly tested on this messge board and think they will get the same exam or topics. When I was studying for BEC I read that “blah” was heavly tested. I studied “blah” till I couldn't see straight. i got ZERO questions on “blah”.

And again with REG, I read that “blah blah” was tested. I didn't give much thought to it, but I remembered when I took the exam there were zero questions on “blah blah”

I agree I don't think there is any way you can help a person on the exam. It is literally the luck of the draw on what questions you will get. Just study everything and you probally will still fail (just a joke 🙂 )

    REG 76(2x)
    BEC FAILED (2x)
    AUD FAILED (2x)

Yeah, I agree. I would love to disclose what was on my REG exam just so I can point out how ridiculous it was, but I don't want to get into trouble. So, I'm forced to keep my mouth shut.

Fortunately I don't know a single person in real life taking the CPA exam. As hard as it is here to keep comments limited to “things I studied were not on the exam” and the like, I cannot IMAGINE how hard it is to keep one's lips shut if their spouse, sibling, friend or coworker is also in the process of studying.

    I'd have to get a restraining order…..permanently!

I agree with the disclosing. Shouldn't be done at all. At the same time I disagree with the getting an advantage idea. Every exam is different. Just because someone told you about a specific topic doesn't mean you'll see that topic. Or just because someone tells you there test was mostly X % doesn't mean yours will have the same percentage.

I have seen people say X topic was covered heavily and it was exactly like that on the test I took. So it's definitely possible to study harder on a topic people say is tested heavily. There is a topic in FAR that seems to be tested heavily, based on my experience and the people on here who disclosed it. So, yes, people can get an advantage.

OMG – Have you guys heard IFRS might appear on your FAR exam?!! Oh shiiiet, now you have an advantage. *GASP*

Good try Minimorty but I wasn't referring to IFRS. Though, some people on here have talked about how heavily tested it was. GASP! Gee, I wonder if people will study harder on IFRS stuff…some people might have thought IFRS questions are still in the infancy stage. But now they know better. But nooooooo, that's not an advantage. There's noooooooo difference between a instructor telling you something and finding out for sure from a test taker…
